Our round profiles made of open-cell polyurethane have a diameter of 15mm and are available in metre lengths at favourable graduated prices. The foam strips are suitable as backfilling material for joints of all kinds, both indoors and outdoors, and ensure that the joint has a two-flank adhesion. The grey round profiles are suitable for all joints with a width of 8mm - 12mm and a joint depth of at least 20mm.

The joint cord is therefore ideal as a filling material for expansion joints and wall connection joints of windows and doors, which are then sealed with a sealant. All conventional sealants such as silicone, MS polymers or acrylic are suitable as sealants.

TIP: A pair of household scissors or a cutter knife is sufficient to shorten the joint cord.

Properties of the PUR foam strip in 15mm

Our foam strips made of polyurethane foam are characterised by a whole range of positive properties. In addition to the very high ageing resistance, our joint cords are UV-resistant, water-resistant and chemical-resistant. The open-cell PU foam also has very good insulating properties, which has a particular effect on the thermal insulation of wall connection joints of windows, patio doors and front doors. The strips, with a diameter of 15mm, are used as joint filling material to limit the joint depth, which not only avoids excessive sealant application. Especially when sealing joints that are subject to mechanical stress, a three-flank adhesion can significantly shorten the durability of elastic sealants. A round joint profile ensures that the sealant adheres to only two sides and also that the joint thickness is not too high, which also has an effect on the elasticity of the joint.

Our foam strips made of grey PU foam are very flexible and soft. For this reason, the foam strips are not suitable for joints that are subject to permanent high mechanical pressure. Such joints can be, for example, swimming pool seals where the water pressure continuously affects the joint. However, for all joints where the pressure load is negligible, our round profiles can be used without hesitation. Even in sanitary areas, as filling material for joints in wall and floor tiles, or for interior doors, the odourless joint cords can be used. The polyurethane round profiles are physiologically neutral and free of CFCs and HCFCs.

TIP: The round profiles have a moderate resistance to petrol, as well as concentrated acids and alkalis.

Processing of our 15mm PU round profile

The round profiles are inserted into the joint before sealing to limit the joint depth. Thanks to the soft, elastic material, insertion into the joint is very easy and does not require any special tools, although a foam strip roller can be quite helpful. It should be noted that the joint width is between 8mm and 12mm, so that the round profile has a firm fit towards the sides and cannot slip when the sealant is applied. In addition, the joint should have a depth of at least 20mm. This ensures that the silicone (or other sealant) has sufficient joint thickness, which is very important for the durability of the joint, especially when the joint is subject to mechanical stress.

Even though PU joint cords have a high elasticity, care should be taken during processing that they are not stretched too much. The joint cord contracts again over time, so that excessive stretching can create gaps behind the sealant, which have a detrimental effect on the insulating properties of the backfill.

Our foam strips have a temperature resistance of -30°C to +60°C, but should be processed at temperatures between +5°C and +40°C. If the temperature deviates from this, the corresponding sealant for sealing the joints can usually no longer be used. In addition, it should be ensured that the round profiles are applied dry and do not absorb any water (e.g. from rain), because after sealing, the moisture can no longer escape to the outside.

TIP: The storage of the round profiles should be dry and at +5°C - +25°C.
