Our PLA filament for 3D printing in the color black impresses with its high and smooth pigmentation throughout the material. It is highly suitable for 3D printing in continuous, deep black on almost all common 3D printers. The color black is very similar to the color deep black with the number RAL9005 of the RAL color chart. The plastic polylactide, PLA for short, is considered to be particularly environmentally friendly because the material is completely biodegradable. Based on corn starch, sugar cane or potato starch as a renewable raw material PLA is formed by the polymerization of the lactic acids contained. The high dimensional stability of the black PLA filaments with a maximum tolerance of +/- 0,05mm, in combination with a particularly high degree of roundness, guarantees the best printing results that meet even the highest requirements.
Our black PLA filamnet, as well as all our other PLA filaments, are particularly easy to process and can therefore be classified as suitable starter filaments.
The low melting temperature of the PLA filaments enables processing even without a heated pressure bed in the form of a heated base plate. On the other hand, the low heat resistance of the PLA filaments has a disadvantageous effect. With a maximum resistance of 60°C, it is significantly less resistant to, for example, ABS filaments that withstand temperatures of up to 85°C. For objects that are exposed to temperatures above 60°C, it is not recommended to use our black PLA filaments, as the material loses its strength under extreme thermal stress and can even soften it. In addition to the temperature resistance, the impact resistance achievable with black PLA filaments is also below the comparable objects made of ABS plastic.
The obvious strengths of PLA filaments are their high environmental compatibility and ease of processing. In addition, our black PLA filament is non-flammable in accordance with fire safety standard UL94 HB and therefore contributes significantly to the safety of the printing process, as well as the use of the print object. A delay in the context of cooling is not to be feared, as well as the shrinkage of the so-printed object, the so-called warp effect – can be ignored. This makes PLA Filament the ideal material for 3D printing with the highest demands on dimensional accuracy and precise shaping of true-to-scale details.
Black PLA filament can be used in all standard 3D printers using FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) printing techniques. The filament thickness to choose depends on the choice of the used printer. Our black 1,75mm PLA filaments are suitable for most of the popular DFM printers. Another common strength for 3D printing filaments is 2,85mm (3,00mm), with individual printer models even being able to process both filament diameters without requiring adjustments to the device. Due to the large number of different manufacturers as well as models of 3D printers, we recommend that you check the suitability of the printer before using our PLA black filament.
HINWEIS:Depending on the used 3D printer, the temperatures may vary due to different temperature accuracies in the temperature measurement, so that the settings of the printer used must be taken into account when printing the black PLA filament. For the first test with our black PLA filament, we therefore recommend a pressure of about 200°C, depending on the result achieved an adjustment may be required. Other factors influencing the pressure temperature are the desired printing resolution, the diameter of the heating nozzle used and the selected printing speed.
Post-processing of PLA filament is easily possible after printing, for example by milling, sawing or drilling. Also, the 3D-printing due to the layered structure own grooves and steps can be easily eliminated with a very fine sandpaper. Alternatively, the workpiece can also be vapor-deposited with a solvent suitable for PLA and can be smoothed. We recommend the use of the solvent tetrahydrofuran. (Please observe the safety instructions and ensure enough ventilation!). Alternatives, for example acetone, lead to strong and uncontrolled reactions with PLA, which can adversely affect the workpiece.
The post-processing of objects from our black PLA filament should be done carefully and with controlled use of force. Because of the much lower impact resistance of the plastic PLA compared to ABS, filigree details tend to damage too much force. The coating of the printed object made of PLA is possible with suitable colors, but it is advisable to use a suitable adhesion-promoting primer. Even the glueing of objects from PLA is possible, so that it is easy to create larger objects that exceed the capacity of the printer from multiple print objects. Possible alternatives to the mentioned processing steps are the direct selection of another, suitable color, as well as the choice of another starting material, in order to be able to implement the necessary post-processing.
NOTE: Despite the relative insensitivity to ambient humidity, storage of the filament should be dry and protected from light.
