Our PLA filament for 3D printing in the color white (similar to RAL9003, signal white) impresses with its consistent pigmentation with a high pigment content and a smooth distribution over the entire material thickness. It is particularly suitable for all 3D prints on all popular models, where it depends on a consistent and bright white. Polylactides, usually simply called PLA, are fully biodegradable and therefore particularly environmentally friendly. From the raw materials corn or potato starch, as well as sugar cane, the plastic PLA is obtained by the polymerization of the lactic acids contained in the starting materials. The white PLA filaments convince with an extremely low tolerance of a maximum of +/- 0,05mm and therefore ensure the highest print quality. Also contributing to the print quality is a particularly uniform roundness of the filaments in the production process.
Because of their simple and uncomplicated processing, all PLA filaments, as well as our white PLA filament, are particularly suitable as starter filaments.
A heated pressure bed or a heated base plate is unnecessary in the processing of the white PLA filaments because of the low melting temperature of the material PLA. This is accompanied by equally low heat resistance of the PLA filaments of at most 60 ° C. The temperature resistance of PLA filaments is below that of, for example, ABS filaments having a temperature resistance of about 85 ° C. Objects that are exposed to temperatures above 60 ° C should therefore not be created from our white PLA filament, because as the temperature rises, the material loses its strength and, in extreme cases, even loses its shape. In addition to the pure temperature resistance, the impact resistance of the white PLA filament is below the values of filaments made of ABS plastics, so that in this respect claimed objects should be made of alternative plastic filaments.
First of all, PLA filaments score with their simple processing and their high level of environmental compatibility. In addition, the production of 3D-printed objects from our white PLA filaments is done without the warp effect common to other plastic filaments. A shrinkage or even a delay, especially at the corners, of the finished object in the context of cooling is therefore not to be feared. That's why PLA Filament can be used to create the most accurate and detailed 3D prints, as well as true-to-scale models at the highest level.
White PLA filament is suitable for the use in almost all common 3D printers (FDM = Fused Deposition Modeling) as part of the FDM printing process. The required filament thickness results from the specifications of the used 3D printer. Compatible for most popular printer models is our 1,75mm thick white filament, but also 2,85mm (3,00mm) thickness is used often. Many modern 3D printers also allow the use of both filament diameters without the need for interference with the technical specifications. The large amount of manufacturers and printer models available on the market makes it reasonable to check our white PLA filament for compatibility before using it for the first time.
NOTE:Temperatures may vary from printer to printer as individual devices may have different accuracies in temperature measurement. Therefore, when printing with our white PLA filaments, the specific settings of each printer model should be considered. When we first use our filaments with a printer, we propose a nominal temperature of 200 ° C. Depending on the result obtained, the need for further adjustments in the pressure temperature may arise. In addition to the equipment inaccuracies, the selected print resolution, the dimensioning of the used heating nozzle and the desired printing speed also influence the temperatures and can necessitate readjustments.
Whether sawing, drilling or milling, the post-processing of printing objects from our white PLA filaments is easy and problem-free. Even the gradations and grooves resulting from the layered construction of larger objects in the 3D-printing process can be eliminated easily. Either a particularly fine sandpaper is used, or a solvent adjusted to the properties of the PLA plastic smoothes the surface of the workpiece after vapor deposition. Our recommendation for this process is tetrahydrofuran, where we strongly advise adherence to the safety instructions, as well as ensuring adequate ventilation! Other solvents, such as acetone, can attack the surface of an object created from PLA in an uncontrolled manner, thereby can cause considerable damage.
When reworking objects created from our white PLA filament, you should be gentle and carefully. The relatively low impact strength, which is much lower than the one of ABS filaments, makes fine details and filigree formations suffer quickly under the effects of post-processing, or even break them off. Lacquering PLA plastic can be easily achieved with suitable paints, whereby a primer increases the adhesion of the paint and creates a uniform color background. If workpieces going to be created that exceed the printing capacity of the existing printer, several individual parts of our white PLA filaments can be printed separately and glued together without any problem. As an alternative to the post-processing options presented, other filament colors or materials also offer the opportunity to possibly avoid individual processing steps from the outset.
.NOTE: Even though PLA filaments are insensitive to moisture, they should always be stored protected from moisture and daylight
