Our 8mm solid carbide facade panel drill is made of solid carbide with an extra-hardened cutting edge. This makes the drills ideal for drilling HPL panels, where conventional drills quickly reach their limits due to the very hard material and wear out considerably faster. The special drill head geometry with very sharp cutting edges enables precise hole drilling without chipping, even with sensitive materials and surfaces. Thanks to the centring tip, exact positioning for the hole drilling can be carried out without any problems and without the risk of the drill slipping. With a diameter of 8mm, the drill is the ideal size for sliding point drillings, which are extremely important when mounting HPL panels, in order to ensure a constraint-free installation with sufficient expansion clearance at the fixing points.
In order not to damage the drill during transport, the drill is delivered in a robust protective packaging with shaft clamp. This protects the cutting edge of the drill from impacts, e.g. in contact with other loose drills in the drill case, thus effectively extending the service life of the cladding panel drill. In addition, the risk of injury is also significantly reduced by the sharp, pointed centre point. The drill protection cover is easy to open and allows very simple removal of the drill from the shaft clamp in the cover.
NOTE: For maximum service life, the HPL drill should always be stored in the protective packaging provided after use.
Our facade panel drill made of solid carbide with a diameter of 8.0mm and a total length of 80mm, has a spiral length of 25mm and is therefore also suitable for facade panels in higher thicknesses. Due to the wide grooves and the special geometric arrangement of the spiral, as well as the perfectly selected helix angle of the spiral, the drill chip can be effectively removed and also prevents the drill from generating too much heat. This makes our drills ideal for long-term use, even if a large number of holes are to be drilled directly behind each other without fear of annealing.
For perfect hole drilling, our facade panel drill has a special drill head geometry which prevents chipping at the edges of the drill hole, especially on the hard surfaces of HPL panels. This means that even when drilling freehand without a firm base, drilling is successful without chipping off the decorative surfaces on the front and back.
The fine, very sharp centre point of the drill prevents the drill from slipping on the hard surfaces, as is typical for façade panels, e.g. our HPL panels. This guarantees very exact positioning of the drill holes without the need to drill small holes in advance or to hammer or pre-punch the marked fixing points with a centre punch. In addition, the centring point breaks up the decorative surface so that the drill head can penetrate the hard surface even more easily, which again has an effect on the quality of the drill hole edges.
In order to drill holes in the façade panels, these must be marked in advance. For this purpose, transfer the positions of the required drill holes to the cladding panel using a suitable pen. Before you start drilling, define a fixing point as a fixed point if required. However, this should not be drilled with the 8mm drill, as the diameter is too large for fixing with our HPL screws. Instead, use our solid carbide facade panel drill bit with 6mm diameter.
The remaining mounting points can be drilled as sliding points with our 8mm HPL drill. The larger diameter ensures that the holes in HPL panels have sufficient clearance in the event of possible thermal expansion, thus preventing the panels from bulging. For drilling, place the centre point exactly on the marked mark and drill at a moderate speed without exerting too much pressure on the drill. Also make sure that you keep the screwdriver straight to achieve exactly aligned drill holes.
It is best to use a cordless screwdriver or drill to drill holes. However, please note that the operating mode of an impact drill is set to drilling without impact. Otherwise the facade panel drill can be damaged, so that in the worst case it can no longer be used.
Our solid carbide (VHM) facade panel drills are very often called HPL drills because they are primarily used for drilling hard laminate panels made of high-pressure laminate. This is due to the very hard surface, which in conventional drills for metal or wood quickly tends to produce coarse chipping at the edges of the drill hole or chipping when the drill emerges on the back. However, the special drills can also be used without hesitation for almost all plastic panels and many other façade panels that are to be drilled with a diameter of 8mm. Especially with conventional plastic sheets, e.g. made of ABS, polyethylene or polypropylene, you will benefit from exact drilling with high-precision, sharp drill hole edges where a fusion of the drill chip is almost impossible if the speed is chosen low enough. However, the drill is not suitable for drilling in stone, concrete or metals.
