Our stainless steel cylinder head screws are rustproof and can be used for countless indoor and outdoor applications. The round head with an internal hexagon drive in combination with the solid construction of the threaded screw allows for firm, secure connections with high tightening torques. We stock the stainless steel screws in a range of thread diameters, from size M5 to size M8. You can also choose between thread lengths of 12mm and 16mm, as well as 20mm and 30mm for the stronger 8mm screws.
The stainless steel screws can be used outdoors without hesitation. UV radiation and weathering do not affect the flawless appearance or the durability of the fastening. This makes the screws perfect for railings and balcony balustrades made of round or square steel, for garden furniture, fences or garden gates made of wood, steel or stainless steel.
NOTE: In contrast to countersunk head screws, where the length specification refers to the total length of the screw, the length specification for a cylinder head screw only provides information about the thread length. To determine the total length, the height of the cylindrical screw head must be added, which in the case of an M8x20mm screw with a head height of 6.7mm results in an actual screw length of 26.7mm.
The cylinder head screws are highly versatile and are characterised by precise manufacturing from high-quality stainless steel. This is an alloy that can be used without restriction in outdoor areas, even in the most adverse weather conditions, due to its excellent corrosion resistance and acid resistance. Rust will not affect the flawless appearance of the shiny screws. This makes the threaded screws the best possible choice for metal construction, furniture construction, construction profiles and countless other applications where stable and secure screw connections are required. Although stainless steel is slightly heavier than comparable aluminium screws, it allows significantly higher tightening torques for assemblies that are subject to high loads due to weight or mechanical stress.
Cylinder head screws get their name from the cylindrical shape of the screw head, which has an internal hexagon drive. Due to the different screw sizes, the drive also varies in size. For the threaded screws with a 5mm thread diameter, a 4mm Allen key is required. The outer head diameter is 7.5mm at a height of 4.5mm, which must be added to the thread length of the screw to determine the total length of the screw. The M6 screw, with a diameter of 9.0mm and a height of 5.6mm, requires a bit or Inbus® wrench in size HEX5. The M8 strong cylinder screw, with a head diameter of 10.9mm and a head height of 6.7mm, requires a bit in size HEX 6.
To use the stainless steel screws, you will need a suitable size of Inbus® key or Allen bit. This modern drive enables a higher tightening torque of the screws than a Philips® or Pozidriv® drive and is therefore an excellent choice for this type of screw, which is suitable for high-strength connections with high mechanical loads due to its solid construction. Another advantage of the cylinder head with internal hexagon is that it is easy to use, as no additional pressure needs to be applied to the tool tip to ensure that the bit is correctly inserted into the drive and does not damage it.
To use cylinder head screws with a metric thread, a suitable counterpart in the form of an internal thread is always required. Typical examples are hex nuts, but flange nuts with knurling or cap nuts are also among the common methods of fastening something with a threaded screw. Stainless steel screws are also often screwed directly into the thread, which is cut into the material. These are often pipes or square profiles made of aluminium or steel. For example, with construction profiles, the screws can be screwed directly into the through-hole after a thread has been cut there using a standard thread-cutting set.
NOTE: Cylinder head screws have a flat surface on the underside of the screw head. This is comparatively small due to the design. For higher loads the use of a washer may be advisable, as the load is distributed over a larger area. This prevents the screw head from being drawn into the mounting surface, especially in the case of materials with a lower surface hardness, such as plastic, wood or wood-based panels.
It is no coincidence that the stainless steel cylinder head screws are available in very short thread lengths, because this makes them perfectly suited for our construction profiles in combination with slot nuts, optionally with or without spring balls. The decisive factor here is that the screw is not too long and can therefore always be screwed all the way into the slot nut without touching the aluminium surface of the construction profile. After all, everything that is attached to a profile with screws, and T-nuts, should remain securely and firmly in place and should not slip within the groove, because the screw cannot be screwed in far enough for proper fastening. Even though stainless steel in combination with moisture can cause contact corrosion when it comes into direct contact with aluminium, this can be ignored with cylinder head screws. These are ultimately screwed into the slot nut. Thus, they do not come into contact with the aluminium profile, which in our case also has an anodised surface, so that the risk of contact corrosion is almost excluded here too.
Stainless steel cylinder screws are used primarily in the metal industry because they do not rust and ensure a permanently secure hold. These include, amongst other things, stair railings and guard rails on balconies and roof terraces. In addition, the threaded screws are used in horticulture for erecting double rod lamella fences or garden gates. The car in the driveway also has one- or two-cylinder head screws in the engine and interior. However, these are not used to screw the cylinder head of the engine, but rather the countless components. For example, the wiper water tank, the battery holder, the air filter box, or the dashboard. The screws are also very common in high-quality patio furniture, which, thanks to the excellent corrosion resistance of the screws, can be left outside all year round without hesitation.
