Description

EPDM lead substitute in red – 100% waterproof. 100% quality.

Extra strong adhesion ✓ With malleable aluminium expanded metal ✓ 25-year warranty ✓

Our red EPDM lead substitute is available in 10-metre rolls and offers a durable, weatherproof and, above all, waterproof solution for all types of sealing in and around the house. The sealing membrane consists of three carefully coordinated layers, comprising a particularly adhesive EPDM adhesive side, a resistant, red granulate-coated EPDM outer layer and an embedded expanded metal made of stainless aluminium, which ensures high dimensional stability. This combination makes the material particularly adaptable, easy to process and robust at the same time. The adhesive underside ensures a secure hold on almost all common building materials, including concrete, brick, plaster, clinker, sand-lime brick and plasterboard. Thanks to its enormous resistance to UV radiation, moisture, temperature changes and mechanical stress, the sealing tape is suitable for a wide range of sealing applications and repairs, both indoors and outdoors, and provides reliable protection against moisture, draughts and weather influences.

We offer flexible lead replacement made of EPDM with a granulated top layer in red, available in either 150mm or 300mm roll widths with a roll length of 10metres. However, the 2mm thick material can be easily cut to the required length with large scissors. The red sealing tape is ideal for inconspicuous sealing of wall connections with red clinker bricks or roof windows with terracotta roof tiles.

Properties of flexible lead substitute in red

Our EPDM lead substitute consists of three precisely coordinated layers of material that together form a particularly effective sealing solution. Inside, flexible, rust-free expanded aluminium mesh ensures high dimensional stability – ideal for uneven substrates, complex connection areas or installation over heavily profiled roof coverings. The underside consists of a specially coated EPDM with high self-adhesive properties that adheres securely to almost all common building materials. The upper layer is made of a resistant, red EPDM with a granulate coating. This provides lasting protection against weathering, mechanical stress and impacts. The result is a well-designed, high-quality sealing tape that guarantees long-term airtight and watertight sealing – quality with a 25-year manufacturer's warranty on watertightness.

Thanks to its three-layer, compressed composition of EPDM outer layers and inner expanded metal, and a low overall thickness of only 2mm, the sealing membrane can be laid effortlessly even in tight radii and complex corners. Unlike rigid materials such as rolled lead, the flexible material adapts easily to different surfaces and shapes. The integrated aluminium fabric gives the tape outstanding stability and formability while allowing moderate stretching. This means that even heavily structured substrates – such as masonry areas with deep joints or roof tiles with a strong wave profile – can be sealed securely and cleanly without having to cut into the EPDM material or make special adjustments.

Advantages of lead replacement made from EPDM

  • The red EPDM tape offers very strong adhesion to all common building materials
  • Unlike rigid rolled lead, flat bonding is watertight and airtight
  • All you need for processing is a pair of scissors and to press down firmly with your hand
  • The intermediate layer made of stainless aluminium expanded metal provides stability during bending
  • The red EPDM sealing tape is ideal for red clinker bricks or terracotta roof tiles
  • Self-adhesive, ideal for effectively sealing storm damage to roof tiles

NOTE: The processing temperature must be above +5°C to ensure that the EPDM is soft enough and adhesion to the surface is guaranteed.

Application and handling of self-adhesive EPDM lead substitute

The red EPDM lead substitute offers a reliable sealing solution for applications on roofs and masonry – both indoors and outdoors. It is used in particular for connections between different parts of buildings, such as extensions, garages or the installation of skylights, and provides reliable protection against moisture, rainwater and standing water. The tape also provides lasting protection against moisture penetration and draughts when sealing window frames or patio doors on existing masonry, thus making a valuable contribution to the energy optimisation of the property. In addition, the tape is ideal for effective repair work on damaged roof tiles. It can be used inconspicuously and reliably, especially on roof coverings in terracotta colours.

Before applying the sealing tape, the substrate must be carefully prepared. It must be clean and dry. Residues such as dust, oil or other contaminants can significantly impair adhesion and must therefore be removed as thoroughly as possible in advance. The red sealing tape is then cut to the required length. A pair of scissors is sufficient for this. An overlap of at least 10 cm should be allowed on both sides to ensure a reliable seal to adjacent masonry or roof tiles. In the case of uneven surfaces, corrugated or heavily profiled roof tiles, it is also advisable to cut the tape slightly longer, as the structure creates a larger actual laying surface.

The sealing tape has a strong adhesive backing covered by a protective film, which must be removed before installation. The EPDM tape is then positioned at the desired starting point of the area. It is essential to ensure sufficient overlap of at least 100mm to guarantee a secure seal. The visible side with the matt red, granulate-coated surface always faces outwards. The sealing tape is now aligned along the intended route and pressed down piece by piece. The rear end should be kept slightly away from the substrate so that it does not accidentally stick, while the material is pressed down and shaped with the other hand to fit the course and shape of the substrate. Once the desired area has been sealed with sufficient overlap, the tape can be easily cut off with a pair of heavy-duty scissors, if this has not already been done. Finally, the entire surface is pressed firmly onto the substrate again with even pressure. Particular care must be taken in corners, recesses or textured areas to ensure that the tape is bonded over the entire surface without air pockets.

TIP: Handling can be simplified during longer sealing work by removing the protective film from the adhesive layer piece by piece. This prevents the sealing tape from accidentally coming into contact with the substrate and sticking to it.

Building waterproofing may well be required over distances longer than the 10-metre roll length. In such cases – or if a measurement error has crept into the planning and the cut sealing tape is too short – another piece can easily be added. It is important that the two strips overlap by at least 10 cm to ensure that no gaps are created and the seal remains continuous. An overlap may also be necessary at pronounced external corners, such as a protruding chimney wall. In such cases, there are two options. Either seal each side individually and then cover the corners with an additional sealing strip that overlaps sufficiently. Or you can lay the sealing tape in one piece around the perimeter and cut it in the corner area on the lower surface with scissors to make it fit better. Here, too, it is necessary to cover the corners with a separate piece of red adhesive sealing tape that overlaps generously to ensure complete sealing.

Cleaning and maintenance of building waterproofing

Over time, the EPDM sealing tape can become dirty due to falling leaves and dust and dirt particles from the surrounding area. However, this dirt does not impair functionality, but only affects the appearance. If desired, the tape can be easily cleaned with a sponge and some soapy water – provided that the affected areas are easily accessible. Cleaning adjacent surfaces such as masonry, roofs or floors with a high-pressure cleaner does not usually affect the tightness of the seal. However, care should be taken not to direct the water jet directly onto the adhesive edges and to maintain a sufficient distance. The use of highly concentrated cleaning agents should be avoided. If their use is necessary, a test should first be carried out on an inconspicuous piece of scrap material to check whether the material is affected.
