Polycarbonate sheets in custom cut

Polycarbonate sheets (PC) offer high impact strength and good rigidity. Our crystal clear and weather resistant polycarbonate sheets are no multi-wall panels, but solid smooth sheets covered both sides with a protective film.

Your advantages with our polycarbonate sheets
  1. polycarbonate sheets can withstand temperatures of up to +100°C long-term, short-term even up to +120°C
  2. polycarbonate sheets do not conduct electricity and have a high impact strength
  3. our compact polycarbonate sheets are UV and weather resistant which makes them suitable for outdoor purposes

What is polycarbonate?

Polycarbonate (abbreviated to PC) is a thermoplastic amorphous polymer that is formed by poly-condensation of bisphenol A and phosgene and is characterised in particular by its enormous impact strength.

Polycarbonate is known in Europe in particular under the brand names MAKROLON (BAYER AG) or LEXAN (SABIC).

Like almost all plastics, polycarbonate has electrically insulating properties and is resistant to dilute acids, many oils, fats and ethanol, but is not resistant to bases, hydrocarbons, ketones and esters.

Physical properties of polycarbonate

Extruded polycarbonate sheets are mostly transparent plastic sheets that are heat resistant up to a temperature of 100°C (short-term up to 120°C).

Polycarbonate sheets have a very high impact resistance and rigidity and are therefore particularly well suited as shatterproof glazing in plant and mechanical engineering, or as roofing and are considered a shatterproof glass substitute. However, unlike acrylic glass, this plastic is notch-sensitive and has low abrasion resistance.

The physical density of polycarbonate is 1.2g/cm3, just like scratch-resistant acrylic, about 20% higher than the density of water, which is why polycarbonate has no floating properties.

Depending on the type, polycarbonate in thicknesses of 1 - 6mm complies with the fire standard ISO EN 13501-1 (flame retardant).

The polycarbonate sheets offered in our shop are equipped with UV protection on both sides and can be used equally well indoors and outdoors.

How is polycarbonate processed?

Polycarbonate can be easily processed using machining methods. Polycarbonate can also be easily sawn, drilled, ground or milled with standard tools. Thermoforming or thermoforming of polycarbonate are also common processing techniques.

Polycarbonate is polar and can be dissolved in polar solvents such as acetone and for this reason PC is very easy to bond.

Our delivery programme for polycarbonate sheets

  • Transparent polycarbonate sheets, UV-stabilised, cut to size up to 2.0x1.0 metres in thicknesses of 3mm, 5mm and 8mm
  • Polycarbonate sheets grey tinted, UV-stabilised when cut to size up to 2.0x1.0 metres in thicknesses of 4mm, 5mm and 6mm
  • Polycarbonate standard sheets transparent, UV-stabilised in 2.0x1.0 metres in thicknesses of 3mm, 5mm, 8mm and 15mm
  • Polycarbonate standard sheets grey tinted, UV-stabilised in 2.0x1.0 metres in thicknesses 4mm, 5mm and 6mm

We also supply on request

  • Polycarbonate sheets transparent, UV-stabilised in 3.05x2.05 metres in thicknesses of 3mm - 15mm
  • Tinted grey polycarbonate sheets, UV-stabilised in 3.05x2.05 metres in thicknesses from 3mm - 15mm
  • Tinted and translucent (partial or partial light transmission) polycarbonate sheets
  • Tubes, rods and welding rod made of polycarbonate

Our sheets are made of UV-stabilised polycarbonate and are supplied with a protective film on both sides to protect them from scratching during delivery and processing. Our polycarbonate sheets are solid sheets and not twinwall sheets or (double) web sheets.

Applications of polycarbonate sheets

Polycarbonate is used in most cases as shatterproof glazing, because this material does not splinter or break even at low temperatures. Polycarbonate is also frequently used in industrial plants, as well as in machine and apparatus construction, due to its shatterproof properties.

Typical examples for the use of polycarbonate

  • Break-proof glazing for terrace roofs and conservatories
  • Roof windows made of impact-resistant and break-proof plastic
  • Break-proof glazing for greenhouses e.g.: in allotment gardens
  • Break-proof camping articles, windscreens or visors of motorbike helmets
  • As a glass substitute as lightweight and shatterproof spectacle lenses
  • and many more

Individual milled parts made of polycarbonate

In addition to polycarbonate sheets cut to your individual size with millimetre precision, we can also produce milled parts in almost any contour thanks to our modern CNC milling centres. All we need from you is a design drawing as a DXF or DWG file (alternative file formats: STEP, IGES, AI (Adobe Illustrator) and EPS files).

In order to provide you with an inexpensive, customised offer including shipping costs, exactly according to your specifications and needs, we also require information about the desired number of pieces per delivery in addition to the sketch.
