The S-Polylight LED Power Controller DR-HOME36W makes modern lighting control more innovative than ever before. This compact device combines a power supply unit and SmartHome control and supplies up to 12 LED recessed spotlights from the DR-SP3W (warm white, 3000K) or DR-SP3K (cool white, 6000K) series with 12 volts and a total output of 36 watts. The permanently integrated 90cm long power cable with Euro plug is plugged directly into the socket, while a compact HUB with twelve slots ensures easy connection of the spots. The connection cables can be plugged in securely and without tools – quickly, cleanly and reliably. Operation is also flexible and convenient. The integrated dimmer allows for continuous adjustment of the brightness, either via the supplied remote control or via a Tuya-compatible app. Thanks to the built-in WiFi module, the controller can be fully integrated into the SmartHome: switching on and off, time control or group switching can be operated via smartphone – or with additional skill via voice command with Amazon Alexa™ and Google Home™. Thanks to its slim design, the system disappears almost invisibly into cavities, behind covers or in the false ceiling. This keeps the technology in the background, while the result is impressive. The set includes a compact 4-channel radio remote control that can be used to control up to four light groups independently of each other – both for dimming and for switching on and off. This requires the use of separate DR-HOME36W SmartHome controllers (the DR-CON36W LED power controller is not supported). Thanks to the 2.4 GHz radio technology used, transmission works even without a direct line of sight to the controller, so that control can be reliably carried out even through walls or across several rooms. This means that the controller can be easily concealed, for example in a false ceiling or behind a panel. The remote control is made of white ABS plastic, has a slim design and fits comfortably in the hand. Soft, rubberised buttons ensure comfortable operation. On the back is a battery compartment for two AAA batteries, each with 1.5 volts (not included).

The free hole saw is made of high-quality bi-metal, with saw teeth that alternate between pointing slightly inwards and outwards. This contributes to a very clean cut. It does not matter whether the material is plasterboard, wood, plastic or light metal. With a diameter of 28mm, the saw is perfectly matched to the installation dimensions of the compact recessed spotlights. A 6mm thick HSS drill bit with a profile-ground design ensures perfect centring. If necessary, this can also be easily replaced with a drill bit suitable for the material. The hole saw fits into any chuck of cordless screwdrivers and drills. The solid triangular shank ensures a secure hold in the drill chuck.

Installation and connection of outdoor recessed spotlights in anthracite

Installation and wiring are particularly easy and require neither electrical expertise nor special tools. All you need to install the LED lighting is a cordless screwdriver to drill the holes with the included hole saw, two 1.5 V AAA batteries for the remote control and a little time. The connection is made using simple screw or plug connections. To start up the LED SmartHome controller and use the SmartHome functions, it must be paired with a smartphone or tablet via a Tuya-compatible app, ideally Smart Life, with the existing Wi-Fi network.

1. Drilling the mounting holes
Holes with a diameter of 28mm are required to install the spotlights. The bi-metal hole saw supplied enables clean cut-outs and, thanks to its progressive alternating teeth, is suitable for wood-based materials, aluminium and drywall. The small recessed spotlights are then inserted through these openings and securely fixed in the wall and ceiling thanks to the clamping brackets with their high spring tension.

2. Wiring the spotlights
After drilling, the pre-assembled connection cables can be laid through the openings to the controller. One is needed for each individual recessed spotlight. When laying the cables, care should be taken to ensure that they are not stretched too tightly or pulled over sharp edges to prevent damage to the insulation. If the enclosed 5-metre cable is not long enough, it can be extended by a further 5 metres with an optional connection extension. The round plug is inserted into the coupling of the LED spotlight, with a notch ensuring the polarity required for direct current. The screw connection is fitted with a rubber seal that provides reliable protection against dust and splash water. When inserted, the clamping brackets with high spring tension ensure a secure hold in the mounting opening. Finally, the small white plugs are each inserted into one of the 12 slots on the HUB on the LED SmartHome controller. The special plug shape prevents it from being inserted the wrong way round, because, as mentioned above, it is important to observe the polarity.

3. Pairing the controller
To prepare the LED SmartHome controller for pairing, the power supply must first be interrupted by briefly disconnecting and reconnecting the mains plug five times. If the connected LED spotlights flash, the controller is in pairing mode. The free app Smart Life app from Volcano Technologiesis suitable for configuration with a smartphone (Available for Android™ and iOS™). It is easy to use, is updated regularly and, when combined with the appropriate skills, can also be controlled via voice assistants such as Alexa&trade or Google&trade Home. Tap on ‘Add device’ or ‘+’ in the app, select ‘Lamp’ and start the automatic pairing mode. Then select the desired Wi-Fi network, enter the corresponding password and establish the connection. The controller will now be automatically recognised and integrated. Alternatively, other Tuya-compatible apps can be used, whereby the respective steps of the app must be followed. The 4-channel wireless remote control can only be paired once the controller has successfully connected to the Wi-Fi. As long as the controller is still in pairing mode after connecting to the app, which is indicated by the LEDs flashing, press and hold the desired channel button (1–4) on the remote control until the LEDs light up briefly. The LED lighting can now be controlled via both the smartphone and the remote control.
