Corrosion-resistant aluminium H-profiles for 6mm panels

For indoor & outdoor ✓ High stiffness ✓ Anodised aluminium ✓

Our aluminium H-profiles in 6mm are suitable for all panels with a thickness of 6mm and are made of solid aluminium. Like all our aluminium profiles in 6mm and 8mm thickness, the H-profiles are optionally available in 1000mm or 2000mm lengths at favourable graduated prices. The smooth surfaces of the attractive profiles have the typical silver colour for aluminium, but can also be powder-coated in the colour of your choice according to the RAL colour system on request. The total width of the profile is 26mm. The visible profile width on the front side, however, measures 17mm. The wider rear side ensures a contact surface of 12.5mm on each side of the profile, which enables screwing on the rear side without the edge distance of the screwing to the edge of the panel being too small, which can result in chipping. The profiles are suitable for panels with a thickness of 6mm, even if the thickness deviates slightly due to production. Such production tolerances are common and can be more or less pronounced depending on the material and manufacturer of the panel material. So that panels with higher thickness tolerances can also be used, the maximum clamping range of our 6mm H-profiles is 6.5mm. In addition to the smooth, silver surfaces, the low thickness of the profiles also plays a role. With one millimetre, a pleasing transition of the profiles to the surface of the panels is guaranteed. Due to the production from solid aluminium, the profiles offer a sufficiently high stiffness, even with panels that have only a low bending stiffness in the low material thickness.

Aluminium H-profiles owe their name to the view in cross-section, which is reminiscent of the upper-case letter H. The profiles, which are used to connect panels arranged next to or on top of each other, are often also referred to as connecting profiles. H profiles basically have no static function and are mainly used for visual reasons to cover cut edges or to conceal expansion joints in exterior facade panels. To make this possible, our aluminium profiles are made of solid aluminium and anodised for the best possible corrosion protection.

NOTE: To attach the H-profiles to the panels, they are pushed onto the edge. Additional gluing is recommended to ensure a permanent, secure hold. Depending on the intended use, additional screwing may also be a suitable fastening method.

    Scope of delivery:
  • 1 x aluminium H-profile 6mm in 1000mm or 2000mm length

TIP: We offer our H-profiles in standard lengths of 1000mm or 2000mm. If required, these can be shortened very easily with a conventional hand saw for metal. However, the best results can be achieved with a mitre saw. Especially when cutting to mitre.

Properties of the aluminium connecting profile in 6mm

The aluminium H-profiles are anodised. This means that the surfaces are treated by anodic oxidation in the so-called anodising process. With this form of surface refinement, an oxidic protective layer is applied, which provides the best possible protection against corrosion. This protects the aluminium profiles from environmental influences when used outdoors, even in the most adverse weather conditions. Especially when used as connecting profiles for HPL panels used as facade cladding outdoors, the special corrosion protection is an essential factor that not only affects the appearance but also contributes to a significant reduction in maintenance costs for the preservation of the building fabric.

The profile thickness of one millimetre may seem very small, but it has a high stiffness due to the production from solid aluminium. Especially for panels with low bending stiffness, this can be significantly improved by the H-profiles, because not all materials are as solid and stiff as laminate panels made of high-pressure laminate. The low profile thickness also has other advantages. On the one hand, a low transition from the profile to the panel is ensured and on the other hand, the thin aluminium is very easy to work with, so that the profiles can also be shortened with a handsaw without much effort.

Application and assembly of the aluminium H-profiles in 6mm

With a clamping range of 6 mm, the aluminium H-profiles are ideal for HPL panels of the corresponding thickness and can be used without hesitation for facade cladding or balcony screens due to their outstanding corrosion resistance. The profiles contribute equally to the visual enhancement and to the improvement of the service life of the corresponding construction. The profiles cover the cut edges which, depending on the cleanliness of the cut, may show rough edge chipping. These are covered by the profiles. In addition, profiles close gaps in panels that have to be installed at a defined distance due to thermal expansion. This not only reduces the cold bridge, which has a positive effect on energy efficiency. The penetration of moisture, for example from rain, is also significantly reduced. Water no longer gets behind the facade cladding and the supporting substructure or the thermal insulation behind it is protected from moisture.

However, the H-profiles are not only ideal for facade panels. The weatherproof aluminium can be used for the construction of balcony screens, fences or cladding for raised beds or free-standing pools. There are also countless examples of the use of aluminium optical profiles indoors. For example, cladding of radiators with small slats made of HPL in wood decor can be erected in no time at all. Partitions of office workplaces, changing rooms in sports clubs, cladding of sales counters or even trade fair stands are further possible examples where aluminium H-profiles can be used to connect adjoining panels.

NOTE: In our online shop we also offer end and corner profiles for panels with 6mm thickness. Likewise, all aluminium profiles are also available for panels with a thickness of 8mm in the standard lengths 1000mm and 2000mm at favourable graduated prices.

    Application examples:
  • The aluminium H-profiles are perfectly suitable for facade claddings with HPL panels in 6mm thickness
  • H-profiles are suitable for covering panel gaps in large-area facade cladding
  • The corrosion-resistant profiles are maintenance-free and withstand the most adverse weather conditions
  • Aluminium H-profiles are excellent for interior fittings, e.g. office furnishings and partition walls
  • H-profiles increase the stability of constructions built with 6 mm thick panels

Our aluminium profiles have a clamping range of max. 6.5 mm. However, due to production-related thickness tolerances of the panels, the H-profiles cannot always achieve the necessary clamping force, so we recommend additional bonding. The most suitable adhesives are permanently elastic assembly adhesives, such as our MS polymers, which we stock in various colours. These hybrid adhesives bond and seal in one step and are characterised by an enormous adhesive strength on almost all materials that are common in the construction sector. The assembly adhesive can be applied with a simple silicone gun. To facilitate the application of the adhesive, the back of the profile rail is provided with a guide groove on the inside, which simplifies straight application and also contributes to improved adhesion of the bond.

Adhesive bonding of aluminium profiles is a secure method of permanent fastening for most applications, but screwing can be a useful alternative or supplement. Especially for panels, whose reduced bending stiffness can be a problem due to their low thickness as well as the way they are mounted, additional fastening with screws increases the stability of the construction. However, our H-profiles are not pre-drilled, so that holes have to be drilled at the desired mounting points. With a cordless screwdriver and a drill suitable for aluminium, such as our ground HSS drills, drilling the profile rails is very easy to carry out. The drill diameter should be selected to match the thread thickness of the desired screws. Make sure that the screw thread is not too long so that you do not screw through the plate when tightening the screws.
