Aluminium H-profiles in anthracite grey (RAL7016) as connecting profiles

Powder coated surfaces ✓ UV & weather resistant ✓ Solid aluminium ✓

Our aluminium H-profiles in anthracite grey are optionally available with a clamping range of 3mm, 6mm or 8mm and are ideally suited for connecting adjacent panels of the corresponding thickness. The smooth surfaces of the aluminium profiles are completely covered with a robust powder coating in anthracite grey (RAL 7016), the colour and gloss level of which is exactly matched to the surfaces of our HPL panels in anthracite. The silk matt colour has a gloss level of approx. 20%. For the production of our H-profiles, we exclusively use a high-quality EN AW 6063 aluminium alloy, which is characterised by very good corrosion resistance. In combination with the UV and weather-resistant powder coating of the surfaces, the profiles are perfectly suited for indoor and outdoor applications.

The profiles have a profile thickness of 1.1mm. The comparatively low profile thickness combines the advantages of a very low weight with very good workability. For example, the 2-metre profiles can be cut very easily with a simple hand saw. Another aspect that can be attributed to the low profile thickness is the very low transition from the panel surface to the profile surface, so that the profile blends almost seamlessly into the appearance of a wall covering. Nevertheless, a high degree of rigidity does not have to be dispensed with and so the profiles made of solid aluminium contribute to an improved bending rigidity, especially with thin panels with a thickness of 3mm, which has a positive effect on the stability of the construction, particularly with acrylic glass or polycarbonate.

NOTE: Our powder-coated aluminium H-profiles in anthracite are optionally available in the clamping ranges 3mm, 6mm and 8mm with a length of 2000mm. We also offer matching aluminium U-profiles in RAL 7016 as end profiles at low prices.

Properties of the powder-coated aluminium connecting profile in anthracite grey

The H-profiles are made of high-quality EN AW 6063 T6 aluminium. This alloy, which is also known colloquially as architectural aluminium, is characterised by very good corrosion resistance. The scratch-resistant powder coating in anthracite grey according to RAL K5 Classic increases the protection against environmental and weather influences even further, so that the profiles can be used for outdoor constructions without hesitation. The colour is UV and weather resistant and does not fade even with prolonged weathering. The colour tone and gloss level are exactly matched to our HPL panels in anthracite grey (RAL7016), so that the connecting profiles in 6mm or 8mm can be used perfectly for an inconspicuous transition of individual panels in facade cladding. This not only covers up edge chipping caused by cutting, but also visually straightens out uneven cut edges. Another advantage when used as a connecting profile on exterior facade cladding is that it closes the cold bridge. This prevents draughts as well as moisture or rain from getting behind the wall cladding through gaps between two panels. The grey profiles are not only suitable for HPL panels, but due to their dark colour, they are also perfect for constructing large-scale roofing and sunshades made of tinted acrylic glass or our break-resistant polycarbonate in grey.

The H-profiles owe their name to the view in the cross-section, which is reminiscent of the upper-case letter H. The term double-T profiles is also commonly used. In our profiles, however, the dimensions for the visible side and the mounting side differ slightly. At 26mm, the mounting side is deliberately somewhat wider than the visible side with a width of 17mm. This has less to do with the appearance and more to do with the optional fastening by gluing or screwing. However, the surfaces are powder-coated in anthracite grey on all sides, so that the back of the profiles can also be used as a visible side. The production length of our profiles is 2000mm. A possible plus tolerance of 5mm is added. However, the profiles are never shorter than 2 metres. All in all, the very low manufacturing tolerances are based on the EN 12020 standard (extruded precision profiles made of EN AW-6060 and EN AW-6063 alloys). Compliance with the tolerance is strictly controlled during and after production by our manufacturer based in Germany to ensure the best possible, consistent quality of our aluminium profiles. The fact that the profile depth differs between the different versions is self-explanatory and is due to the different clamping ranges. A 3mm H-profile, for example, has a depth of 5.7mm. This value results from the double profile thickness of 1.1mm for the front and back of the profile, as well as the maximum clamping range of 3.5mm. The half millimetre difference between the clamping range and the maximum clamping range has nothing to do with the manufacturing tolerance of the profiles. Rather, the increase in clamping thickness ensures that panels can also be inserted whose panel thickness is subject to higher fluctuations, which is not unusual with plastic panels, even if they are high-quality brand products.

Specific data of the different profile sizes

  • Alu H-Profile 3mm: Clamping range: max. 3.5mm, profile depth outside: 5.7mm, weight: 138g/m
  • Alu H-Profile 6mm: Clamping range: max. 6.5mm, outer tread depth: 8.7mm, weight: 147g/m
  • Alu H-Profile 8mm: Clamping range: max. 8.5mm, outer tread depth: 10.7mm, weight: 153g/m

Application and assembly of the aluminium H-profiles in anthracite grey

The powder-coated aluminium profiles in anthracite have an absolutely even surface in silk matt. This clearly enhances the smooth surfaces of the extruded profiles, because due to the manufacturing process, longitudinal stripes with varying surface gloss would be visible on the surfaces of untreated profiles. Anthracite is one of the most sought-after colours in the field of interior design and is also by far the most widely used shade of grey for facade panels. To fit the profiles between two facade panels, they can either be pushed onto the edge of the first panel before the second panel is fitted, or inserted between the two panels afterwards. When used as a floor profile, the thin profile can simply be pushed under the end edge of floating floor coverings, such as laminate or carpet, before continuing the installation on the second side. Additional sealing with a suitable silicone sealant prevents moisture and mop water from penetrating between the different floor coverings.

TIP: Our aluminium H-profiles with weather-resistant powder coating are currently only available online in the standard length of 2 metres. If the profiles are required in shorter lengths, they can easily be cut to size with a standard hacksaw or, if available, with a crosscut saw with a metal saw blade. We recommend masking the powder coating with masking tape to avoid damaging the surfaces during processing.

Our profiles are all manufactured with the highest precision. Depending on the thickness tolerance of the panels, the clamping force of the profiles ensures a secure hold without slipping. In the case of very smooth surfaces, however, it may be necessary to fix the profiles with a little silicone or an MS polymer. In addition, screwing is also a secure fixing method, but the profiles are not pre-drilled, so holes still have to be drilled here with a small HSS drill. To facilitate gluing or drilling, a small guide groove is incorporated on the inside of the mounting surface. This enables a straight application and ensures an even edge distance of drill holes within the profile. In addition, this small recess results in significantly better adhesion of adhesives and sealants.

Application examples for aluminium H-profiles

  • The H-profiles are matched in colour and gloss to our HPL panels in anthracite grey and are therefore ideal for these panels
  • The H-profiles in 6mm and 8mm are ideal for covering gaps in facade cladding with our HPL panels in RAL7016
  • The powder-coated profile hides edge chipping and uneven cut edges on adjoining panels
  • The H-profiles in RAL7016 fit perfectly into patio roofs to connect the glass panels to each other
  • The anthracite grey H-profiles are suitable as a transition profile for floor coverings e.g. from dark tiles to carpet
