The black balcony screw set with threaded sleeve, is provided with a scratch-resistant lacquer finish in jet black (RAL9005 according to RAL K5 Classic) and is ideal for mounting our HPL panels in jet black (RAL 9005) on balcony railings consisting of square profiles, because the head lacquer finish of the balcony screw and the threaded sleeve is exactly matched in colour and gloss level to the surface decor of the HPL panels. However, the black screws are also perfectly suitable for all other black panels and do not necessarily have to be used for balcony cladding. To enable inconspicuous installation on an unpainted steel railing, the set can also be ordered with an unpainted threaded sleeve. The screws and sleeves are made of A2 stainless steel - a steel alloy with outstanding corrosion resistance. The grey spacer washer, which is inserted between the cladding panel and the balcony or stair railing, is made of a shock-resistant polyethylene (LLD-PE) and serves as a sliding base and vibration dampener.
NOTE: The indicated size of the balcony screw set always refers to the thread size of the screw. In black, these are available in the sizes M5x25mm or M5x30mm. The clamping range, on the other hand, is 1mm to 5mm above the thread length and is due to the threaded sleeve, as well as the concrete screw-in depth into the sleeve.
A cap nut has the advantage that it can also be used for fastening to flat steel profiles. A threaded sleeve, on the other hand, already requires a profile depth of at least 18mm, but has the advantage that it lies flat on the substructure. In addition, the threaded sleeve of the set is also available with a black head lacquer finish. Two bits in size T20 are required for the installation of panels with balcony screws and threaded sleeve, both of which have a modern hexagon socket drive. These can also be ordered at favourable prices if required.
The black balcony screws and threaded sleeves are made of a rustproof A2 stainless steel alloy. This is an extremely corrosion-resistant steel, which has a positive effect on durability and thus also on low maintenance costs. To ensure that the screw connection does not loosen at any time, we use a special thread locker that is applied to the internal thread of the M5 threaded sleeve. This consists of an adhesive component and a hardener component, which is contained in tiny glass beads. When the balcony screw with M5 thread is screwed into the sleeve, these beads burst, causing the two components to mix and initiate curing by a chemical reaction. Once hardened, this connection can no longer be loosened by vibrations and shocks of the cladding panels or the balcony railing. If the screw is nevertheless to be loosened, this requires the appropriate screwdrivers and a great deal of force. It should be mentioned that the thread adhesive can only cure once. This means that after the intended loosening, a new threaded sleeve must be used for re-screwing. This is the only way to ensure a screw connection that is secure against loosening on its own.
Black lacquer can fade relatively quickly due to weathering. For this reason, we use a particularly robust powder coating for the head lacquering of the screws and threaded sleeves, which is also characterised by very good UV and weather resistance. The colour tone is exactly matched to our HPL panels in deep black. The gloss level of the silk-gloss top coat also corresponds to the surface gloss of our black HPL panels, so that a largely inconspicuous installation of the panels is guaranteed.
On the one hand, the spacer disc serves to absorb vibrations and impacts, which can have a negative effect on the durability of a balcony surround fastening in the long run. In addition, the smooth surface of the spacer disc ensures unhindered panel expansion, which is enormously important for panels that require installation without constraints. This is made possible by the production of high-quality polyethylene (LLD-PE), which is characterised by excellent sliding properties and very good impact resistance.
NOTE: Although aluminium and stainless steel are metals characterised by good corrosion resistance, A2 steel balcony screws should not be used to mount panels on square profiles made of aluminium because the contact of the two alloys can cause contact corrosion.
The head-lacquered balcony screws in black with threaded sleeve are ideal for extremely durable and at the same time inconspicuous installations HPL panels or aluminium composite panels in black and are the ideal fastener for installations on square profiles outdoors. These include, for example, balcony railings, stair railings or fence posts made of black steel. The application of the sets is very simple. The grey plastic spacer sleeve is pressed into the hole in the profile between the panel and the supporting profile. On the opposite outside of the profile, the threaded sleeve is inserted. Finally, the black screw is passed through the plate hole and the spacer sleeve and screwed into the thread of the threaded sleeve. For this purpose, two screwing tools with Torx bit in size T20 This is necessary because without securing the threaded sleeve to prevent it from turning, screwing in will not succeed. This is due to the special thread-locking adhesive, which causes a certain narrowing of the thread.
Based on the insertion depths of 5mm for the spacer sleeve and 12mm for the threaded sleeve, a minimum thickness of 18mm is required for the square profile. A profile width of more than 21mm also ensures that the spacer sleeve, which has an outer diameter of 21mm, is always completely covered by the profile. With a profile of less than 18mm but more than 12mm, the spacer sleeve can be dispensed with if a self-adhesive poly washer is used instead as a sliding base and for vibration damping. It should be noted, however, that the hole in the profile on the side where the poly washer is glued on and the plate is attached must then be drilled with a 5.5mm drill bit instead of an 8.5mm drill bit. The opposite side where the threaded sleeve is inserted, on the other hand, must still have an 8.5mm drill hole diameter.
If you want to use the black screws for fastening HPL panels to a substructure made of square profiles, we recommend using a special facade panel drill made of solid carbide, which, due to the special drill head geometry, enables clean drill hole edges without edge chipping. As is usual for HPL - and most other cladding panels - care must be taken to ensure constraint-free installation with fixed and sliding point fixings, which differ above all in the diameter of the panel hole. The fixed point for HPL panels is drilled with a 6mm. Sliding points, on the other hand, should be drilled with an 8 mm drill bit. A solid carbide drill is not so well suited for the square profile. An HSS drill is the better choice here. With a diameter of 8.5 mm, this can be used for both holes in which the threaded sleeve or spacer is later inserted. This drill is also very suitable for the sliding point holes in aluminium composite panels. For the fixed point of each panel, we recommend using an HSS drill with a nominal diameter of 5.5 mm.
Threaded screws with threaded sleeves are extremely versatile and are not only suitable for fastening balcony cladding. These screws are perfect for connecting black table tops to the base frame or cabinet carcasses, such as those offered by a large Swedish furniture store. The spacer sleeve can be dispensed with. The large, flat screw head prevents the surface of the wood from being dented when the screw is tightened. The black lacquer finish on the head of the screw and the sleeve also means that the connection of the cupboards is not noticeable, unlike the silver screws that are sometimes included in the packages.
