Properties of our HPL screws in Mid Grey

The demands on a facade screw are very high, because facade cladding outdoors must withstand all weather conditions. For this reason, it is necessary that the screws are made of stainless steel. We play it safe with a very high-quality A4 steel alloy, because this offers maximum protection against corrosion, even if the screws are exposed to seawater enriched or acid rain for years. In addition to the choice of alloy, it is also important to consider the design of the screw, as there are strict specifications here for approval as a facade screw. With an overall length of 37mm, the screw is perfect for HPL panels up to 10mm. This is due to the thread-free screw shank of 10mm. The coarse thread with a length of 25mm and a diameter of 5.5mm ensures a very high load-bearing capacity when used in substructures made of wooden beams. The flat, round screw head accounts for 2mm of the total length. This has a diameter of 12mm and has a modern Torx drive of the size Tx20 (ISR20), which enables an effort-saving, easy assembly without running the risk of slipping out of the drive with the bit or turning the drive round, as can happen quite quickly with old-fashioned cross-slotted screws.

The grey tone of the head lacquer matches the surface decor of the high-pressure laminate panels Trespa® Meteon® UNI COLOURS in Mid Grey (A21.5.1). In addition, the discreet gloss level of the silk-gloss lacquer corresponds to the surfaces in Satin finish to ensure that the panels are installed as inconspicuously as possible. The special lacquer used for the lacquering of the screw head is insensitive to scratching and does not fade over time due to its very good UV and weather resistance, so that the appealing medium-grey colour tone is retained for years.

Mounting of facade panels with our facade screws

Decisive for the professional execution of an installation of Trespa® Meteon® panels as a rear-ventilated facade system in the outdoor area is the general type approval, which provides information about the permissible installation material as well as the type of substructure. Our facade screws in Mid Grey may only be used in combination with suitable wooden support battens. In addition, the assembly must be carried out without constraints, i.e. with a fixed point and sliding points for each individual panel. The diameter of the holes within the panel varies. An HPL drill with a nominal diameter of 6 mm is required for the fixed point. For sliding point fixings, which are to ensure thermal expansion of the panel, a drill with an 8mm diameter must be used. The substructure, however, must not be pre-drilled. When screwing in the screws, they must be screwed straight through the panel hole into the wooden support batten. The screw must not be tightened too much. It is sufficient if the screw head is flush with the surface of the facade panel. Otherwise, the panel cannot expand to the sides due to the excessive tightening torque and will bulge in warm weather or direct sunlight.

When constructing facade systems with Trespa® Meteon® panels, there are clear specifications as to how often these are to be fastened. The number of fasteners depends primarily on the size of the panel. The larger the surface, the more screws are needed. The distances between two fasteners as well as the distance to the edge of the board must be taken into account. This must not be less than 20 mm, regardless of the thickness of the HPL board. The maximum distance for a screw to the edge of the panel must not be greater than ten times the thickness of the panel. For an 8mm panel, this is the maximum edge distance allowed. For a panel with a thickness of 6 mm, this value is significantly lower at 60 mm. The distance between two screw connections also depends on the thickness of the panel. With a thickness of 8mm, the maximum distance between two fixings is 700mm. With 6mm panels, the value is reduced to 600mm. Depending on the expected loads, e.g. wind or tensile loads, as well as the ceiling installation of heavy panels, the distances must be reduced further. How far can be seen in the corresponding approvals and installation instructions of the respective panel manufacturers.

Both the facade screws and the HPL sheets do not have to be used exclusively for facade cladding. The neutral medium grey of the versatile panels can be integrated into any interior design style and is not too visually intrusive. Particularly in shopfitting, the quite dark panels are perfectly suited for sales counters, wall cladding and back panels of product shelves due to their inherent rigidity and easy-to-clean surface. Especially in combination with acrylic glass or coloured accents, for example in Lime Green or Carmine Red, appealing shop fittings with an individual look are very easy to implement with HPL panels in Mid Grey.
