Aqua-Plus PP-R ball valve - screwable version

Full passage ✓ Various sizes ✓ Designed without dead space ✓

The white Aqua-Plus PP-R ball valve in screwable design is used for easy opening and closing of the water circuit and is inserted between two PP-R pipes with identical diameters. The ball valve, which we offer in sizes DN20, DN25, DN32 and DN40 to match our pipes, has a full bore. This means that the bore of the ball has the same internal diameter as the corresponding pipe, which ensures a flow without flow losses. The large, smooth-running locking lever in orange opens in the direction of flow and locks when turned at a 90° angle.

The advantage of the screwed version of our ball valve made of PP-R is that it can be integrated very easily into an existing pipeline system, because the screw connection makes the welding work much easier than with the cheaper fixed welded connection.

Properties of the PP-R ball valve with screw connection

The Aqua-Plus PP-R ball valve is made entirely of white polypropylene random copolymer. The only exceptions are the lever handle, which is made of orange polypropylene, and the four seals. These include the two seals fitted in front of and behind the ball, which create a seal inside the ball valve, and the two O-ring seals used to create a seal between the screw connections. The food-safe and drinking water approved plastic is characterised by a very good resistance to chemicals. Due to the very smooth surface, no limescale deposits form, which results in a very long service life of 50 years and more. Like the pipes, the ball valve can be used within a line of cold and hot water. Water temperatures of up to +95°C can be realised, making the valve ideal for use as a shut-off valve for individual heating circuits.

The ball valve with screw connection consists of seven essential individual parts. In addition to the pre-assembled ball valve with floating ball, there are two pipe supports for welding to the pipe ends, two O-ring seals that are already inserted into the recesses provided in the ball valve and two solid screw connections that press the pipe support with its bearing surface firmly against the sealing rings, creating a pressure-resistant and watertight screw connection from the pipe to the ball valve. Additional sealants, hemp or Teflon tape, are not needed to achieve a tight connection.

With a ball valve, the flow is opened by turning the lever handle in the direction of flow. In the process, a cannulated ball inside the valve rotates and thus opens the water circuit. The special feature of the Aqua-Plus ball valve is the dead space-free design. This means that when the ball is turned to open and close the tap, there is no empty space inside the tap that can remain filled with water after it has been fully opened or closed. This means that limescale and impurities in the water (for example, corrosion deposits caused by metal pipes) cannot impair the function and tightness. The floating ball is provided with a high-quality seal in both directions, which does not result in any restrictions on the usability of the piping system in terms of pressure and temperature resistance.

Size overview of the PP-R screwable ball valves

  • PP-R ball valve DN32: both sides PP-R pipe with Ø outside 32mm (Ø inside 21.2mm)
  • PP-R ball valve DN40: both sides PP-R pipe with Ø outside 40mm (Ø inside 26.6mm)

Processing of the ball valve with screw connection for PP-R pipes

The high-quality ball valve with screw connection is an alternative to our inexpensive ball valve, which is firmly integrated into the pipe system by welding. However, in order to connect the ball valve to the pipe ends on both sides, the pipe must also be welded to the pipe holder here. Depending on the design, a pipe welding device with heating mandrel and heating bush of the appropriate size is required. The welding itself is done in the same way as a welded joint of pipes with a socket. For this, the pipe is inserted into the heating socket and at the same time the small pipe holder is pushed onto the heating mandrel. After the heating time has elapsed, the pipe must be inserted into the pipe socket without waiting and allowed to cool for a certain time. The insertion depth varies from 14mm - 20mm and depends on the outer diameter of the PP-R pipe. Do not twist the pipe when inserting it into the socket. In addition, the pipe should be inserted straight into the pipe holder with a maximum of 3 degrees axial deviation.

The values for welding depend on the actual diameter of the PP-R pipe. The duration of heating and cooling must be taken into account here, as well as the insertion depth, which determines how deep the pipe must be inserted into the pipe holder. With our assembly data sheets, which can be viewed in the "Data sheets" tab, we have prepared a separate data sheet for each pipe size from which these values can be taken. These data sheets are also peppered with lots of other helpful information relating to assembly, linear thermal expansion and service life, taking into account the existing pipe temperatures and pressures.

NOTE: The two screw connections should be pushed over the respective pipe end before welding, as they can no longer be guided over the pipe holder afterwards. The reason for this is the widened contact surface at the other end of the pipe holder, which is pressed firmly against the O-ring seal by the screwing.

After both pipe ends have been welded to the pipe holder and cooled down, the ball valve can be screwed on both sides. Make sure that the black sealing ring is flush with the contact surface of the pipe end. However, due to the high fitting accuracy of the screw connection, there is no significant risk here, so that a watertight connection of the individual components is ensured after screwing. The fittings offer a good grip, so that they can be screwed on very easily by hand without additional tools.
