The white Aqua-Plus PP-R T-pieces with external thread, are suitable for connecting two PP-R pipes with the same diameter, and also have a brass external thread connection that branches off at right angles. The diameter of the thread varies from 1/2" to 1", as do the two receptacles for the PP-R pipes of 20mm, 25mm or 32mm outside diameter. The PP-R T-piece is available in a total of four different versions, the sizes of which are most commonly used in domestic plumbing, for example to lay drinking water pipes, heating pipes or cooling pipes for air conditioning units.
PP-R T-pieces are used to extend the piping system by branching. With the T-piece with branching thread connection, the PP-R pipe system can be combined very easily with other pipe systems made of metal. In addition, the external thread offers a convenient way to connect radiators, water connections or flexible pipe connections to the PP-R system.
Our PP-R T-pieces are made of white polypropylene random copolymer and high-quality brass. Polypropylene is characterised by very good impact strength and, as a food-safe plastic, is also approved for use as a drinking water pipe. Strict standards apply to this area of application, so its use is tested and certified by SKZ and DVGW. The very good chemical resistance of the plastic, as well as the temperature resistance from -10°C to +95°C, also allow it to be used as a heating and air conditioning pipe.
The Aqua-Plus T-pieces are not only made of high-quality materials. The way the brass thread is integrated into the plastic also reflects the very high quality of the product. For a tight fit, the brass insert is worked deep into the plastic. In the case of the T-piece with external thread, the brass inside is even covered with the plastic right to the end of the thread. This not only contributes to an optimised flow, but also prevents deposits of limescale and suspended matter in the water due to the chemical resistance and the very low surface roughness of the polypropylene.
The pipe receptacles to be welded, of the opposite connection options of the T-piece, are limited in depth and are tapered in diameter in the middle part of the T-piece to the respective inner diameter of the pipe. This creates an almost surface-flush transition from the pipes to the T-piece after welding. This significantly reduces the flow resistance. Another advantage of the optimised design is reduced noise emission when water passes through.
The T-piece has two opposing pipe holders of the same diameter, so that two PP-R pipes can be welded in a straight line without reducing the diameter. For the welding process, a pipe welding device with heating mandrel and bushing of the appropriate size is required. The pipe is inserted into the heating bush and at the same time the T-piece is placed on the heating mandrel. The two components remain there until the heating time is reached. Then the pipe must be inserted into the softened pipe holder. This must be done quickly, straight and without turning the pipe, otherwise the tightness of the welded joint cannot be guaranteed. The depth to which the pipe must be inserted into the T-piece depends on the diameter.
The T-pieces with external thread are available for PP-R pipes from 20mm to 32mm outer diameter. With increasing pipe diameter, the heating time, the cooling time and the insertion depth increase. We have summarised this data in separate assembly data sheets for each pipe diameter, which can be downloaded from the "Data sheets" tab. These assembly data sheets also contain valuable information on assembly, assembly distances and the thermal expansion of the plastic pipes depending on the continuous operating temperature.
The external thread, which branches off at right angles in the T-piece, is used to easily connect the pipe system with other pipe systems or a section within the PP-R pipe system and can be quickly and easily made by screwing with a pipe coupling with internal thread in the appropriate size. It is advisable to weld the two plastic pipes first and only then make the screw connection so that the branching connection does not complicate or hinder the welding work.
NOTE: The screw connection of the external thread made of brass, should be sealed with some hemp or Teflon tape for optimal tightness.
