Description

PE-UHMW (PE-1000) sheets in green - the most used in mechanical engineering!

High-performance plastic ✓ Extremely abrasion-resistant ✓ Made in Germany

Our green PE-HD-UHMW sheets are available in our online shop in thicknesses from 8mm to 70mm and a standard format of 2000mm length and 1000mm width. The green colour typical for apparatus and mechanical engineering is identical thanks to the complete colouring of our PE-UHMW sheets, both on cut and milled edges and on the surfaces. The plastic sheets are manufactured in Germany and consist of 100% virgin material, which is subject to constant quality control. Our PE-UHMW sheets in green also consist exclusively of solid sheets (solid core material) and do not have a foamed core made of polyethylene. The surfaces of the ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene sheets are smooth and have no protective film.

NOTE: Polyethylene, like our PE-UHMW sheets in green, is an engineering plastic, so we do not recommend using it for optical purposes.

Properties of our PE1000 sheets in green

PE-HD-UHMW in green is usually referred to as PE-UHMW or PE-1000 or, in mechanical and apparatus engineering, as PE-green. The abbreviation PE-HD-UHMW stands for polyethylene with high density and a very high molecular weight, which in turn results from very long molecular chains. The average molecular weight of our PE-UHMW is more than 9 million g/mol. The very high molecular density of green PE-UHMW is noticeable in its significantly increased wear and abrasion resistance, compared to high-density polyethylene (PE-HD) or polyethylene with high molecular weight (PE-HMW). The resulting longer service life, even under heavy loads with dynamic stresses, is increased even further, because PE-UHMW also has a significantly higher notched impact strength (impact and shock resistance) than polyethylene with less long molecular chains.

In applications where plastic machine parts have to withstand the highest stresses, as is the case with plastic plain bearings, chain guides or gear wheels, PE-UHMW is the best choice. Thanks to the narrow molar mass density of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, which is due to the very high molecular density, this plastic has a very low coefficient of sliding friction and thus significantly better sliding properties compared to PE-HD or PE-HMW. For this reason, PE-UHMW (PE-1000) has very low wear and a very long service life, even under heavy dynamic loads.

The temperature range of PE-HD is from -50°C to +80°C. The temperature range of PE-HMW is -100°C to +80°C, which is sufficient for most applications. However, especially in applications where high resistance to very low temperatures is required, material fatigue can occur, particularly under strong dynamic loads caused by movement, as is the case with plain bearings, chain guides or gear wheels. Impacts, such as those that constantly occur in bulk material hoppers and conveyor chutes, can also lead to stress cracks if the temperatures are too low. Here, our green PE-UHMW with a temperature range of -260°C to +80°C is the perfect plastic for the highest loads at the lowest temperatures.

PE-UHMW (PE-1000) has excellent chemical resistance and can also be used for permanent contact with most acids, alkalis or solvents. In addition, PE-UHMW does not absorb moisture and is therefore considered a water-resistant plastic, which is an important aspect in the chemical industry when dealing with chemicals that react to water. Another advantage of the high chemical resistance is that PE-UHMW is very easy to clean, as hardly any substances adhere to the surfaces of this high-performance plastic. This property is highly valued in machine and apparatus construction, as well as in special vehicle construction.

Approvals for PE-UHMW (PE-1000) in green

The ultra-high molecular weight PE green is food safe and considered physiologically harmless according to BfR. It fulfils the requirements for food conformity according to EU 10/2011 as well as the requirements for food conformity according to FDA. Production plants and machines in the food industry therefore have construction parts made of PE-UHMW in green.

Standards for PE-UHMW (PE-1000) in green

  • REACH (EU Chemicals Regulation)
  • RoHS (Regulation on the Prohibition of Hazardous Substances in the Electrical Industry)
  • PAK (Directive on compliance with limit values for polyaromatic hydrocarbons)

Other thicknesses or sheet formats of PE-UHMW (PE-1000) sheets in green are available on request.

Do you need our green polyethylene sheets made of PE-UHMW in other thicknesses or would you like the sheets cut to the sizes you need? Then simply send us an email with all the necessary details and our competent sales team will take care of your request as quickly as possible. This also applies if the standard format of 2000mmx1000mm is not sufficient for you and you need the green PE-UHMW sheets in the size of 3000mmx1250mm.

We can supply series production of milled parts made of durable PE-UHMW in green on request.

Probably the most common area of application for green PE-UHMW sheets is in mechanical engineering and conveyor technology. Here, however, whole sheets are rarely used, but rather individual milled parts made of the wear-resistant plastic, which we can produce for you according to your design drawing thanks to our 3-axis milling centres. All information about our milling service can be found here.

Application examples for PE-UHMW (PE-1000) in green

  • PE green is used in apparatus engineering for machine components that have to withstand the highest stresses
  • PE-UHMW Green withstands impacts even at very low temperatures and is therefore often used in deep-freeze technology
  • In mechanical engineering, covers are made of PE-UHMW, which must be resistant to chemicals and impacts
  • In transport and materials handling technology (industry and mining), wear-resistant PE-UHMW is used

Processing PE-UHMW (PE-1000) in green

Green PE-UHMW or PE-1000 can be processed excellently using machining techniques. Cutting green polyethylene sheets by sawing or milling is comparable to cutting wood, which is why simple woodworking tools are sufficient for this purpose. The same applies to drilling or turning PE-UHMW in green. Furthermore, PE-UHMW can be punched to produce stamped parts from the wear-resistant material. Cuts with a CO2 laser or with a water jet cutting system are further processing methods to bring the green plastic sheets made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene to the desired size.

Polyethylene is a thermoplastic and can be thermoformed or thermoformed into finished plastic parts. However, PE-UHMW is an exception here, because this plastic is not suitable for thermoforming. Only cold forming is a method used in practice to produce moulded parts from PE-UHMW (PE-1000).

For bonding our green PE-UHMW sheets, we recommend our special adhesive S-Polybond PEprofi, which has been specially developed for bonding polyethylene, because polyethylene cannot be bonded with conventional solvent-based adhesives due to its very high resistance to solvents. The excellent chemical resistance of PE-UHMW is also a reason why the green sheets cannot be printed, painted or covered by a film.

PE green - or better PE-UHMW (PE-1000) in green - is primarily used for wear-resistant machine components with a long service life that are manufactured in one piece. Therefore, although welding PE-UHMW is generally quite possible, it is hardly ever used in practice.

NOTE: As an engineering plastic, our PE-UHMW sheets are only suitable for optical purposes to a limited extent and are supplied without a protective film.
