Description

PE-HMW (PE-500) sheets natural- high molecular weight!

Made in Germany ✓ Impact resistant ✓ Food compliant ✓

Our polyethylene sheets in high molecular weight PE-HD-HMW (PE-HMW or PE-500 for short) in natural colour are available as standard sheets in various thicknesses from 10mm to 100mm. The dimensions for our standard PE-HMW sheets are 2000mm for the length and 1000mm for the width. Our PE-500 sheets have the natural milky white colour of polyethylene throughout. Polyethylene sheets in the natural colour are opaque, but still relatively translucent in lower thicknesses. Our PE-HMW sheets are manufactured in Germany and do not have a foamed core. Our PE-HMW (PE-500) sheets are exclusively solid sheets made of solid core material. The surfaces of our natural-coloured PE-HMW sheets are smooth and are supplied without a protective film.

NOTE: Polyethylene is considered an engineering plastic and scratches relatively easily compared to other plastics. For this reason, use for optical purposes is not recommended.

Properties of our PE500 sheets in nature

PE-HD-HMW (high density - high molecular weight) consists of polyethylene with long molecular chains and is characterised by its increased impact resistance compared to our sheets made of PE-HD (high density - polyethylene with high density). In addition, PE-HMW has lower abrasion and thus improved sliding properties, as well as increased abrasion resistance compared to PE-HD. This is reflected in particular in the better scratch resistance and cutting resistance of PE-HD-HMW sheets compared to PE-HD.

Another advantage of our natural-coloured PE-500 sheets is their increased temperature resistance at low temperatures. While PE-HD can be used in a temperature range from -50°C to +80°C, the temperature range of PE-HMW sheets is an enormous -100°C to +80°C. This means that PE-HMW sheets can also be used excellently in cold storage houses and in conveyor systems where a very high frost resistance is required. This means that the PE-HMW sheets can also be used excellently in cold stores and in conveyor technology, where a very high frost resistance or a higher abrasion resistance is required.

As is typical for polyethylene, our standard PE-500 sheets also have anti-adhesive properties. The excellent chemical resistance to acids, alkalis and solvents contributes to the fact that polyethylene is used in particular in the chemical industry. The high chemical resistance is also the reason why polyethylene cannot be glued with conventional plastic adhesives. Printing or painting polyethylene is also not possible due to its anti-adhesive nature.

Approvals for PE-HMW (PE-500) in nature

Polyethylene absorbs almost no moisture and is considered physiologically harmless (according to BfR). This means that polyethylene can be used for food processing without hesitation. Due to the increased cutting resistance of high-molecular PE-HMW, these plastic sheets are preferably used as cutting pads.

  • Physiologically safe according to BfR
  • Food conformity according to EU 10/2011
  • Food conformity FDA

Standards for PE-HMW (PE-500) in nature

  • REACH (EU Chemicals Regulation)
  • RoHS (Regulation on the Prohibition of Hazardous Substances in the Electrical Industry)
  • PAK (Directive on compliance with limit values for polyaromatic hydrocarbons)

On request, we can supply our PE-HMW sheets cut to size or in larger formats.

Our high molecular weight polyethylene sheets (PE-500) are also available on request in other thicknesses or larger sheet formats with dimensions of 3.0x1.25 metres. In addition, we can also supply you with PE-HMW sheets in green in the formats 2.0x1.0 metres or 3.0x1.25 metres. Of course, you can also order our PE-HMW sheets in natural colour directly in the sizes you require. Simply send us your specific enquiry by email with details regarding the required thicknesses, the dimensions for length and width in millimetres, as well as the required number of pieces and our friendly sales staff will immediately send you your individual and low-priced offer for your PE-500 sheets.

We manufacture your milled parts from natural coloured PE-HMW according to your design drawing.

If you need milled parts, for example gear wheels for conveyor technology, or cutting boards with juice grooves, we will be happy to produce these for you on request thanks to our modern 3-axis milling centres with CNC control. All information on our milling service can be found here.

Application examples for PE-HMW (PE-500) in nature

  • Due to its high frost resistance, PE-HMW in natural colour is often used in cold stores and deep-freeze warehouses
  • PE-HMW is often used in materials handling technology thanks to its improved abrasion resistance and better sliding properties
  • High-molecular-weight PE-HMW is ideally suited for port construction as it absorbs almost no moisture and therefore does not swell
  • PE-HMW is used to make surfboards as it is impact resistant, lightweight and glides very well on the water

Processing of PE-HMW (PE-500) in nature

PE-HMW (PE-500) is a very easy plastic to work with and can be processed with simple woodworking tools. Our natural-coloured PE-HMW sheets in standard format can therefore be cut to size quite easily with a simple saw. Milling, turning or punching PE-HMW is also possible with the appropriate tools and machines. Cutting PE-HMW to size with a CO2 laser or a water jet cutting system is also possible.

Polyethylene belongs to the thermoplastics and can therefore be used for the production of finished plastic parts in the thermoforming process. Hot moulding as well as cold moulding are further methods for the production of moulded parts made of PE-HMW.

Polyethylene has excellent resistance to chemicals. For this reason, polyethylene cannot be printed or painted. It is also not possible to apply a film or digital print to polyethylene. This also applies to our PE-HMW sheets with high molecular weight. The resistance to solvents also means that PE-HMW cannot be glued with commercially available adhesives. The only exception is the two-component adhesive S-Polybond PEprofi, which we offer in our online shop.

Polyethylene cannot be bonded with conventional adhesives. For this reason, the welding of polyethylene is common practice. However, it should be noted that only plastics of the same type should be welded together, so PE-HMW can only be welded with PE-HMW, but not with PE-UHMW or PE-HD. We will be happy to supply you with the appropriate PE-HD-HMW welding wire for welding our natural-coloured PE-HMW sheets on request.

NOTE: As an engineering plastic, our PE-HMW sheets are only suitable for optical purposes to a limited extent and are supplied without a protective film.
