Our S-Polybond PMMApolitur is a fine-grained polishing paste specially developed for acrylic surfaces. It is used to polish, smooth and refresh matt and weathered plastic surfaces made from polymethyl methacrylate and effectively removes minor surface scratches. The polishing paste can be applied by hand using a soft cloth or mechanically with a soft polishing pad at low speed.

S-Polybond PMMApolitur was specially developed for polishing smooth acrylic surfaces. It is suitable for all smooth acrylic sheets, regardless of brand or manufacturer, including acrylic XT, acrylic GS, Setacryl and many others. It does not matter whether the acrylic is cast or extruded. The paste can also be used to polish coloured, fluorescent or transparent acrylic sheets. S-Polybond PMMApolitur is also suitable for opal acrylic with a frosted-glass appearance and for our opaque acrylic sheets cut to size. However, the polish is only suitable to a limited extent for coated, painted or laminated surfaces and should first be tested on a sample piece or an inconspicuous area. The polishing paste should also not be used on matt or satin-finished acrylic sheets.

Properties of our S-Polybond PMMApolitur

Our special polish PMMApolitur from our own S-Polybond brand is a ready-to-use mixture for industrial applications and for restoring acrylic sheets that have become matt and dull due to weathering or regular cleaning. The polishing paste can produce a noticeable improvement, especially on plastic glazing in motorhomes, caravans and boats that is permanently exposed to the weather. Regular cleaning of the glazing creates barely visible surface scratches that can lead to stress cracking under strong UV radiation. Smoothing the surfaces removes these scratches and restores the plastic glazing to a new shine.

S-Polybond PMMApolitur is a very fine polishing paste comparable to 6000-grit sandpaper. The extremely fine polishing particles in the paste mean that there is no risk of scratching smooth surfaces. On the contrary, the polishing paste removes minor scratches from plastic surfaces and can reduce deeper scratches with repeated use. This also makes the polishing paste very suitable for removing fine scratches from smartphone, tablet and smartwatch displays. However, it is important to ensure that the display cover is made from acrylic and not tempered glass or sapphire glass.

NOTE: Always use a soft, lint-free cloth rather than a microfibre cloth when cleaning and polishing acrylic.

Using the PMMApolitur polishing compound

Surface preparation

Before polishing, clean the surfaces thoroughly using a cleaner suitable for acrylic, such as our PMMAclean acrylic cleaner. It is important to remove dirt, dust, grease and wax and to rinse the surface thoroughly with low-lime water.

Dosage of the polishing paste

Apply the polishing paste directly to the surface or to the polishing pad and spread it over the surface using circular movements. Make sure that the polishing paste does not dry out and moisten it with water if necessary, for example using a spray bottle. Always apply only a small amount of the paste to the surface. On larger areas, work section by section and only treat an area that can be completed in one pass. Do not apply the polishing paste in direct sunlight or to hot surfaces, or surfaces that have become excessively heated by the sun, to prevent the paste from drying out. Keep the surface sufficiently moist throughout the entire polishing process. Residues of the PMMApolitur polishing compound can be removed with a damp, soft cloth.

NOTE: After polishing, the surface may need to be cleaned again with an acrylic cleaner to achieve a streak-free gloss on the freshly polished acrylic surface.

CAUTION: Not suitable for coated or satin-finished acrylic sheets. Avoid contact with metallic surfaces.

Before using the S-Polybond PMMApolitur acrylic polishing paste, consult the safety data sheet and the technical data sheet. Particular attention should be paid to the information on handling and personal protective equipment during use. Even if the safety data sheet does not explicitly require it, chemical mixtures and substances should always be stored in their original container and kept out of the reach of children for safety reasons.
