Our FOME FLEX Fire Block 1K PU foam in the gun foam can with 750ml content is a fire-resistant fire protection foam that complies with fire resistance class B1 according to DIN4102 (Part 1). This makes the foam ideal for filling cavities, joints and wall penetrations where special fire protection requirements apply. Especially for gap filling between masonry and fire doors, safes, metal window frames or cable penetrations, the fire-resistant construction foam is the perfect choice. Foaming with the fire protection foam can be done with any conventional PU foam gun.
The high-quality PU foam FOME FLEX Fire Block is manufactured in Switzerland and is characterised by a uniform foam structure that is created during expansion after foaming. The post expansion of the fire protection foam, is between 30% and 50% and depends on the ambient temperature, as well as the moisture content. How well the polyurethane mass is mixed with the blowing agent by regular shaking also affects the quality of the foam structure and the increase in volume.
FOME FLEX Fire Block is a ready-to-use one-component polyurethane assembly foam. As a version in the gun foam can with 750ml content, the foam can be applied with any conventional PU foam gun for one-component PU foams. As the name Fire Block correctly suggests, this is a fire-resistant fire protection foam that complies with fire resistance class B1 according to DIN 4102 Part 1. In addition, the flame-retardant PU foam is classified in fire resistance class EI240 according to DIN 13501-2. This means that a room enclosure is protected from fire transmission by flames or hot gases for at least 240 minutes when exposed to fire on one side.
FOME FLEX Fire Block has excellent adhesion to all mineral materials used in the construction sector. Especially when foaming cavities and joints between concrete, clinker, aerated concrete, sand-lime bricks or comparable building materials and metals such as aluminium or steel, the construction foam represents a flame-retardant cavity filling that also contributes to optimal sound insulation thanks to the uniform pore formation of medium size. The foam structure also closes thermal and cold bridges and thus insulates effectively at the same time. The high increase in volume, which occurs through the post-expansion of 30%-50%, results in a very high yield of the foam. With free expansion, a total volume of up to 45 litres can be achieved with a single foam can.
The processing temperature of the fire protection foam is between +5 and +35°C. At low temperatures it is recommended to warm up the foam can to +18°C. This should be done slowly and gently and can be achieved by a warm (not hot) water bath, or by storing it in a room with the appropriate room temperature. It is also important to ensure that the processing temperature is not exceeded or undercut during curing. Depending on the scope of work, joint width and volume, it takes up to 12 hours for the foam to cure completely and can be accelerated somewhat by additional moistening after foaming. After the foam has cured, the temperature resistance ranges from -40°C to +80°C. This means that the foam is equally frost-resistant. This means that the foam is both frost-resistant and heat-resistant, so that it can also be used for foaming in deep-freeze plants or industrial plants with high temperatures.
NOTE: PU foam does not adhere to polyolefins (polyethylene, polypropylene) and PTFE.
The FOME FLEX Fire Block 1C PU fire protection foam is delivered ready for use in the gun foam can. A commercially available PU foam gun is required for foaming, which is screwed onto the valve of the can. Before screwing on, but at the latest immediately before applying the foam, the foaming agent must be mixed with the PU adhesive mass. To do this, the can must be shaken vigorously for approx. 15 seconds. On the one hand, this causes the foam to be transported out of the can and, on the other hand, the shaking has an influence on the foam quality, which is characterised by a medium porosity with good insulating properties.
Before starting to foam cavities, door frames or wall openings, the surfaces must be sufficiently moistened, because one-component polyurethane foams need moisture to cure. However, with a spray bottle filled with tap water, this step is quickly done. When applying the foam, the can must be held upside down so that the foam can flow out of the can. The flow rate of the foam, can be adjusted as required with most foam guns by means of an adjustment screw on the back. Due to the high post-expansion of up to 50%, the dispensing tip of the gun should be inserted about halfway into the gap or cavity. Dispense the foam until it reaches the tip.
For continuous work or larger cavities, it is advisable to shake the gun vigorously from time to time in order to maintain a consistent foam quality. The holding time for bonding with fire protection foam is about 5 minutes. After foaming, but at the latest before the setting time is reached, which is between 5 and 8 minutes depending on the ambient temperature and moisture content, unintentional impurities should be removed. Our gun foam cleaner FOME FLEX foam cleaner is suitable for this purpose. Once the foam has hardened, it is difficult to remove it mechanically with a scraper or knife.
Due to the high post-expansion, the foam may swell and escape from the joint if it is filled too generously. This is not a problem, however, because after the fire protection foam has hardened, it can be removed with a painter's spatula or a sharp knife.
WARNING: Always wear gloves when working with PU fire protection foam.
Before using the fire protection foam FOME FLEX Fire Block, read the technical data sheet, as well as the safety data sheet. Above all, the specifications for personal protective equipment (protective gloves, safety goggles) should be taken into account urgently. Process the fire-resistant PU foam only in well-ventilated rooms or outdoors and avoid skin contact or contact with the eyes. PU foam cans, like all adhesives, should always be kept closed and out of reach of children.
