The high-quality one-handed clamps from Högert are clamping and expanding clamps for one-handed operation and are a very useful aid for countless applications in trade and household, for example to secure chipboard or plastic panels against slipping when sawing or to ensure sufficient fixation when gluing and bonding. The steel profile rail in combination with the large clamping jaws ensures precise guidance with maximum durability. The robust pistol grip enables fast, firm and secure fixing with comparatively little effort. The fixing tool can be easily operated with the left or right hand, so that the second hand can be used for precise alignment of the workpieces.
We offer the one-hand clamps in various sizes with different lengths of the solid profile rail and therefore clamping and spreading ranges of different heights for fixing objects. The specified size refers to the maximum clamping width when clamping objects and is optionally available in 100mm, 150mm, 300mm or 450mm. The expansion range is higher depending on the selected size. The clamping arms, as well as the robust pump handle, are made of high-quality polyamide (PA6), which is characterised by very good load-bearing capacity. Depending on the version, the clamping depth varies from 34mm to 64mm.
The clamps and spreader clamps are truly multi-talented and suitable for countless areas of application. Depending on the size, the maximum clamping range varies and ranges from 100mm for the smallest available one-handed clamp to 450mm for the largest that we offer in our online shop. Regardless of size, all our one-hand clamps are made from high-quality materials. The solid profile rail is made of wear-resistant and deformation-resistant steel and accounts for the majority of the weight of the clamping tool. To prevent the movable clamping jaw from slipping off the rail when it is released, it is fitted with an end stop at both ends. This also serves as a stop limit when repositioning the clamping jaw at the end of the rail. The housings of the clamping jaws and the handle, on the other hand, are made of very light but extremely sturdy polyamide (PA6). The choice of materials alone reflects the high quality, which certainly fulfils the high demands of trade businesses.
A clamp has a simple task. It should hold objects in place until the clamp is removed. The rather large contact surfaces of the clamping jaws fulfil this task extremely reliably. The blue protective covers slightly increase the contact surface and also provide effective protection when fixing workpieces with more sensitive surfaces. Achieving the maximum clamping force is almost effortless thanks to the pistol grip and the simple yet effective mechanism inside the housing. In contrast to many other manufacturers, the housing can be unscrewed if necessary to clean the mechanism. This can be useful, for example, if something has got onto the profile rail when applying an adhesive or wood glue and the internal mechanism consisting of steel springs and pressure plates has been contaminated when removing the clamp.
The Högert one-handed clamp can be used as an expanding clamp by releasing the clamping jaw from one end of the profile and screwing it onto the other end of the profile. The contact surfaces now point outwards so that instead of clamping, the clamp is spread by operating the handle lever. Here too, the values for the maximum spread vary depending on the size of the clamp. However, it should be noted that the expansion range requires a minimum distance, which must be present so that the clamp can be inserted into the gap and expanded. For the smallest model, this minimum value is only 73mm. For the three larger models, the value is limited to at least 146mm and only varies in the maximum distance of the achievable expansion, which we have listed in detail in the specific data below.
The moulded handle sits comfortably in the hand and is very easy to operate. When the handle lever is pulled, a solid steel spring is compressed, which moves the steel plates in a diagonal direction and wedges them to the profile rail so that the clamping jaw on the handle moves further and further along the profile rail in the direction of the clamping jaw at the outer end of the steel rail. The function of the release button, which is positioned at the rear of the handle so that the push button can be easily reached with the thumb to release the fixation, is based on a very similar principle.
In contrast to conventional screw clamps with a rotary handle, one-handed clamps have the advantage that they can be operated with one hand, leaving the second hand free for precise alignment of the workpiece. Handling is extremely simple. The pump handle is operated to fix the workpiece in place, causing the clamping jaws to move closer and closer together along the profiled steel rail until they finally make firm contact with the surfaces. As soon as the handle lever can no longer be pulled with normal force, the maximum fixing force of the one-hand clamps is reached. As the size of the clamps increases, the fixing force increases, which is particularly noticeable with workpieces under tensile stress. In direct comparison to Compared to simple screw clamps, the force of the automatically dosed fixation is somewhat lower and is therefore ideal for plastics, glass, solid wood or wood-based materials as well as light metal. However, one-handed clamps can be combined with screw clamps and clamps without hesitation to achieve perfect fixing, for example for gluing, sawing, milling or welding. The one-hand clamps also hold the substrates securely in place during bonding until the adhesive has reached its final strength.
However, the high-quality clamps are not only suitable for pressing together when gluing or for fixing boards to avoid vibrations when sawing, but can also be used as spreader clamps. In order to use the one-handed clamps for spreading, the clamping jaw, which is attached to the end of the profiled steel rail, must be attached to the opposite side. To do this, loosen the green wing nut by turning it anti-clockwise and pull it out completely. A hexagon nut is embedded in the plastic on the back, which falls out after removing the screw. The clamping jaw can now be guided over the end of the steel rail. When pushing on the other side, ensure that the contact surface is facing outwards. The clamping jaw must be pushed onto the profile rail until the end lock is reached. The nut can then be inserted into the recess provided and secured against falling with a finger. Finally, the wing nut is screwed back through the hole in the clamping jaw, through the profile rail, into the thread of the nut and tightened clockwise by hand. Typical examples are the careful disassembly of glued furniture carcasses or ensuring a gap distance when assembling cupboards and drawers.
Clamping and expanding clamps are almost indispensable in container construction and in the manufacture of frames. As expanding clamps, they ensure that the individual container walls do not fall into each other during bonding or before welding. To counteract the internal pressure caused by spreading, one or more clamps are usually attached from the outside in such applications. In this way, picture frames can be produced at a perfect right angle very easily and efficiently by gluing, without running the risk of the frame profiles bending due to the external pressure.
All you need to do to release the clamp is press a button. A small push button on the back of the pump handle, which can be easily reached and operated with the thumb, is used for this purpose and releases the one-handed clamp. It does not matter whether the clamp is operated with the left or right hand. The button is also used to return the clamping jaw, which is located on the handle, along the steel profile rail.
NOTE: The clamps are fitted with removable protective caps in an attractive blue colour. These are made of polyethylene, which is softer than the polyamide of the clamping jaws, so that sensitive surfaces are better protected against scratching. For very sensitive or high-gloss painted surfaces, it is nevertheless advisable to place a soft cloth between the surface and the contact surface of the clamping jaws. For pressure-sensitive materials with a lower surface hardness, it is also helpful if the contact surface is enlarged with a wooden board or a plastic plate to prevent pressure marks caused by clamping or spreading.
