Threaded sleeve M5 made of stainless steel (unpainted)

Without head painting ✓ For all screws with M5 thread ✓ Also single ✓

The threaded sleeve is made of high-quality A2 steel. This is an extremely corrosion-resistant stainless steel alloy that is perfectly suited for all areas of application, both indoors and outdoors. The head diameter is 14mm and is quite flat at 2mm, which allows almost even mounting of panels on corresponding substructures. The sleeve, on the other hand, has a diameter of 8mm and a depth of 12mm. This requires a panel or profile thickness of 12mm or more so that the sleeve can be fully inserted into the hole. The internal thread of the sleeve in size M5 is suitable for commercially available threaded screws with an M5 external thread. To ensure that the screw connection holds reliably and cannot loosen due to shocks or vibrations, we use a two-component adhesive for securing the screws on our unpainted threaded sleeves, which is applied to the internal thread of the sleeve.

NOTE: The stainless steel threaded sleeve with an M5 internal thread can be screwed onto all threaded screws, regardless of length, colour or head shape, as long as the thread diameter also corresponds to the M5 size.

The round, lenticular head of the threaded sleeve is flat on the underside and has a total height of approx. 2mm. This ensures a very flat fastening of panels or screwing of profiles and boards together, in contrast to screwings with cap nuts or ordinary nuts. For easy assembly without the risk of slipping out of the drive, as can happen with simple cross-slot drives, the sleeve head is equipped with a Torx drive. A Torx spanner or bit in size T20 (or hexagon socket ISR20) is required for screwing.

Properties of the unpainted stainless steel threaded sleeve

The threaded sleeves made of A2 stainless steel consist primarily of a screw-in sleeve with an internal thread in the size M5, which is suitable for any M5 threaded screw, for example our unpainted balcony screws. The sleeve has a total depth of 12mm. The sleeve diameter on the outside is 8mm, which is 6mm less than the round, flat head with Ø 14mm, which is slightly lenticular on the top. The latter has a Torx drive, which allows for a force-saving screwing with high tightening torques without having to exert pressure on the drive so that the drive is not rounded. In order to prevent the threaded sleeve from turning, it must be tightened with a Torx wrench or bit insert in size T20 (ISR20) be countered. This is due to the integrated screw lock, which slightly narrows the thread at the corresponding point.

If something is screwed, this serves the purpose that the screw connection fixes the panel securely and permanently to the substructure. It is undesirable for the screw to loosen on its own. For this reason, we rely on a particularly effective screw lock by means of a special thread adhesive, which consists of two components that initiate a chemical hardening process when the threaded screw is screwed in. This adhesive is applied to the internal thread of the threaded sleeve, so that when selecting the screw, it is not necessary to ensure that it has a thread locking varnish. The use of spring washers is also unnecessary with stainless steel threaded sleeves.

With the unpainted threaded sleeve, the screw head, as the name suggests, does not have a powder coating. However, because we rely exclusively on rustproof stainless steel alloys for our screws and sleeves for fastening HPL and aluminium composite panels, there is no need to worry about using them outdoors even without a protective coat of paint. The shiny silver colour typical of A2 stainless steel is particularly suitable for screw fittings on stainless steel square tubes, but can also provide an appealing accent for grey or coloured decorative panels.

NOTE: Loosening the screw connection renders the thread locker useless. If this is necessary, for example when fastening balcony surrounds as fall protection, the threaded sleeve should be replaced with a new one or a screw locking varnish should be used to restore the screw lock.

Use of threaded sleeve in light grey

The threaded sleeves in unpainted design are predestined for mounting façade panels in all imaginable colours on substructures made of square tube in stainless steel. It does not matter whether the panels are HPL panels, aluminium composite panels or slats made of solid wood. It should be noted here that the profile must have a depth of more than 12mm so that the sleeve can be fully inserted into the hole so that the head of the sleeve rests on the surface. A drill with a diameter of 8.5mm is required for drilling. For profiles made of stainless steel, an HSS drill in the appropriate size is a very good choice. If, on the other hand, two wooden materials are screwed together, one of them should be drilled through with a wood drill of the same diameter. For thicker boards, a depth limit of 13 or 14 mm can help to ensure that the sleeve can be inserted sufficiently deep.

With an internal thread of 5mm, any threaded screw of the appropriate thread size can be screwed in. Balcony screws matching the colour of the panel surface are usually used for balcony panels in non-restrained installation. In principle, however, all threaded screws can be used as long as they have an M5 thread. The thread length is irrelevant, but it should be noted that the threaded sleeve increases the clamping range by one to five millimetres. For example, a threaded screw in the size M5 x 30mm can be used for fastenings where the required total thickness between the screw head and the head of the bare threaded sleeve is in the range of 31mm and 35mm.
