Our S-Polybond PMMApolitur is a fine-grained polishing paste specially developed for smooth acrylic glass surfaces. It is used to polish, smooth and restore dull, worn or weathered plastic surfaces made from polymethyl methacrylate and can effectively reduce fine surface scratches. The polishing paste can be applied by hand using a soft cloth or with a soft polishing pad at low speed.
S-Polybond PMMApolitur is suitable for smooth acrylic glass sheets from various brands and manufacturers, including extruded acrylic glass, cast acrylic glass, Setacryl and suitable sheets, glazing and components of the PLEXIGLAS® brand. It can be used on both cast and extruded acrylic glass.
The paste can also be used to polish transparent, coloured, fluorescent, opal or opaque acrylic glass, provided that the surface is smooth and uncoated. The polish is unsuitable or only conditionally suitable for coated, painted, laminated, satin-finished or matt surfaces. On unknown or specially finished surfaces, compatibility should be tested on an inconspicuous area or a test piece before applying the product over a large surface.
The PMMApolitur special polish from our S-Polybond brand is a ready-to-use mixture for professional and private restoration of smooth acrylic glass surfaces that have become dull or worn due to weathering, ageing or regular cleaning.
The polishing paste can produce a noticeable improvement, particularly on plastic glazing used in motorhomes, caravans and boats that is permanently exposed to weather conditions. Fine signs of use and light surface scratches are smoothed, giving the plastic panes a more even and glossy appearance.
S-Polybond PMMApolitur is a very fine polishing paste whose polishing action is comparable to that of a very fine abrasive. The fine polishing particles smooth the surface and can reduce small scratches. Deeper scratches may be softened through repeated application, but cannot always be removed completely.
The polishing paste can also be used on suitable displays, covers and viewing panels made from acrylic glass or on compatible products of the PLEXIGLAS® brand. Before use, make sure that the surface is actually made from uncoated acrylic glass and not from glass, toughened glass, sapphire glass or coated plastic.
NOTE: A soft, clean and lint-free cloth should be used to clean and polish acrylic glass. Rough or dirty cloths may contain particles that cause additional scratches.
Surface preparation
Before polishing, clean the surface thoroughly using a cleaning agent suitable for acrylic glass, such as our PMMAclean acrylic glass cleaner. Completely remove dirt, dust, grease and other residues, then rinse the surface with plenty of clean water with a low mineral content where possible.
Before use, make sure that no grains of sand or other hard particles are present on the surface or in the polishing cloth, as these may cause scratches during polishing.
Dosage and application of the polishing paste
Apply a small amount of polishing paste directly to the surface or to a soft polishing pad. Spread the paste over the area to be treated using even, circular movements. For larger surfaces, it is advisable to work in sections and treat only a manageable area at a time.
Make sure that the polishing paste does not dry out completely during application. If necessary, lightly moisten it with a small amount of water, for example from a spray bottle. Keep the surface sufficiently moist throughout the polishing process and avoid excessive pressure or high rotational speeds to prevent the acrylic glass from overheating.
Do not apply the polishing paste in direct sunlight or to hot or strongly heated surfaces. Residues of S-Polybond PMMApolitur can then be removed using a soft, damp cloth.
NOTE: After polishing, it may be necessary to clean the surface again with a suitable acrylic glass cleaner to remove residues and achieve an even, streak-free surface gloss.
CAUTION: Not suitable for coated, painted, laminated, satin-finished or matt acrylic glass surfaces. Avoid contact with metal surfaces. Test compatibility on an inconspicuous area before use on unknown surfaces.
Before using the S-Polybond PMMApolitur acrylic glass polishing paste, consult the safety data sheet and technical data sheet. Pay particular attention to the information on safe handling and personal protective equipment. For safety reasons, chemical mixtures and substances should always be stored in their original container and kept out of the reach of children.
