Fischer SX expansion anchor - secure anchoring in 4 directions

Powerful 4-fold expansion ✓ Various sizes ✓ From 1 dowel ✓

The fischer SX expansion plug is available in various sizes in our online shop. The expansion plug provides a secure hold thanks to powerful 4-fold expansion in all directions and can be used in solid building materials such as concrete, solid brick or aerated concrete, as well as in perforated brick such as sand-lime brick or hollow brick. A pronounced anchor edge effectively prevents the anchor from slipping into the drill hole. The edge also allows the anchor to be used for push-through installation through the attachment part. The integrated anti-rotation device, which is ensured by four small webs on the anchor neck, prevents the anchor from rotating in the drill hole when the screw is screwed in. In order to prevent damage to the edge of the drill hole, the anchor neck also has an area free of expansion pressure. Chipping in plaster or tiles is a thing of the past, even with thicker screws.

We offer the plastic anchor fischer SX in various diameters from 6.0mm to 12.0mm at favourable prices. Other anchor sizes, as well as longer expansion anchors for higher anchoring depths, are also available on request at short notice. As an alternative to the longer version of the expansion plug, we offer the fischer DuoPower all-purpose plug both in the standard version and in the extended version for improved load distribution in softer building materials, e.g. aerated concrete.

Installation instructions for plastic expansion anchors

The fischer SX expansion anchors are suitable for mounting attachments on numerous mounting substrates. Especially in solid building materials such as concrete, solid sand-lime brick, solid brick or natural stone with a dense structure, the expansion plug can powerfully demonstrate its functional principle. In addition, thanks to the expansion in all four directions, the anchor also has a firm hold in vertically perforated brick or perforated sand-lime brick or softer building materials such as aerated concrete or solid gypsum boards. Depending on the weight and load-bearing capacity of the building material, a longer anchor with a greater anchoring depth may be advisable, for example in perforated brick, aerated concrete or also a greater plaster thickness. For attachments with a higher thickness, we also recommend the use of anchors with a higher anchoring depth for push-through installation. This ensures that the anchor penetrates sufficiently deep into the mounting substrate and that the expansion takes place in the building material and not already in the add-on part or the plaster layer.

To insert the anchor into the building material, the holes must be drilled in the desired positions of the fixings. The nominal diameter of the drill bit should correspond to the diameter of the anchor. We stock suitable masonry drills, as well as special hammer drills with a 4-point cutting edge for reinforced concrete, in the category drills and bits. The minimum depth of the hole depends on the selected anchor as well as the type of installation. In the case of push-in installation, the anchor is inserted into the drilled hole before the attachment part is mounted, so the hole must be deeper here than when the anchor is inserted through the attachment part into the drilled hole. In principle, the drill hole should always be made deep enough. Otherwise the screw cannot be screwed in far enough so that the anchor cannot fully develop its expansion effect, which in turn has a negative effect on the load-bearing capacity of the fastening. The depth of drilling can be found in the Additional Information tab after selecting the desired anchor size. When drilling the holes, make sure that they are straight so that the screw can also be screwed in straight.

Our chipboard screws fischer PowerFast II are excellent for screwing. The screw is inserted into the anchor and screwed in with the appropriate tool until it has reached the required screw-in depth. The ideal size of the screw depends on the size of the anchor and the thickness of the surface-mounted part. For mounting a mirror cabinet with a Ø8 x 40mm dowel, this means that a screw with a diameter of 4.5mm to 6.0mm should be selected. The length should be chosen so that it is at least equal to the length of the dowel plus the thickness of the attachment plus the simple screw diameter. Detailed information on the screw diameter and the minimum screw-in depth can be found in the additional information.

WARNING: Never use screws that are too small, because if the screws are too short or too thin, the anchor cannot develop its expansion effect sufficiently. In addition, the maximum diameter of the screws should not be exceeded in order not to damage the plastic anchor.

Advantages of the fischer SX expansion plug

  • Secure hold thanks to powerful 4-way spreading in all directions
  • Prevents slipping into the drill hole thanks to pronounced anchor edge
  • Prevents the anchor from turning in the drill hole thanks to anti-rotation protection
  • No stress damage at the edge of the drill hole thanks to the expansion pressure-free anchor neck
  • Suitable for both push-in mounting and push-through mounting

Application examples for fischer expansion anchor SX

The inexpensive expansion anchors should not be missing in any household, because they can be used in an extremely wide variety of ways for almost all fastenings that are to be made with screws and anchors. Expansion anchors with a diameter of 5mm or 6mm are ideal for simple fixings where small screws are to be used and only a small weight is placed on the fixing. These smaller standard dowels are ideal, for example, for mounting simple wall and ceiling lights, for attaching skirting boards that are to be screwed in place, or for fastening motion detectors outdoors.

For attachments with a somewhat heavier weight, or installations that are subject to moderate movement, fixing material with a dowel diameter of 8 mm or more or dowels with a greater anchoring depth are suitable. Typical examples for the use of 8mm expansion anchors are hanging wardrobes in the entrance area, letterboxes made of stainless steel or light wall shelves in the living room and children's room. Trellises on the patio can also be attached very well with the plastic dowels, although the use of rustproof screws should be taken into account here as a matter of urgency. Small wall cupboards for bathrooms and toilets can also be installed with expansion plugs, but we recommend our special plugs fischer DuoSeal, which are ideal for installation in damp rooms due to their sealing effect.

Wall cabinets in fitted kitchens may not be heavy, but they usually have to bear a lot of weight, because coffee cups, plates or supplies are also among the loads acting on the fixture. Such a high weight, coupled with the high tensile load and oblique load acting on the screws, requires strong screw material that can withstand the load. Dowels with a larger diameter of 10mm or even 12mm should also be used here. The situation is similar when screwing on wall brackets for large TV sets or larger wall shelves.

The 10 mm dowels are also very suitable for mounting our substructure profiles on clinker or sand-lime bricks. The number of screw connections per running metre should be adapted to the total weight of the façade cladding. For lightweight aluminium composite panels, fewer screw connections are required than if the same area were to be clad with heavy HPL panels.

NOTE: The load capacity of a fastening can vary considerably depending on the size of the anchor, the mounting surface and the screw selected. For information on the possible loads, please refer to the load table of the SX expansion anchors in the Downloads tab.
